NBA chairman Tanenbaum and Terry boost Pagliuca’s Chelsea takeover

The True Blues group, which includes John Terry as a member, will lend its backing to Stephen Pagliuca and Larry Tanenbaum in their effort to purchase Chelsea.

Former

Chelsea

captain

John Terry

is part of a group backing

Stephen Pagliuca

's takeover attempt, which also includes NBA chairman Larry Tanenbaum. The True Blues Consortium, whose founders include Terry and other former Blues players, voiced confidence in Pagliuca's ownership offer, which also includes the

Boston Celtics

and

Atalanta

of Serie A.

Meanwhile, Pagliuca confirmed NBA commissioner Adam Tanenbaum's participation in the offer, which had been published earlier this week. He also commended the True Blues group for their public support. The True Blues group, which revealed its desire to bid for minority ownership in the club last month, has now publicly backed the 67-year-old.

"We were recently able to spend some time with Steve and Larry after engaging [with] and being well accepted by all of the bidders," the organization stated in a statement to Sky News. "After learning more about their proposal, we're sure that they're on the same page as Chelsea fans and, of course, have previous ownership experience."

"With the final bidders, we believe the club is in a fortunate situation, and we look forward to continue our discussions with them."On Tuesday, Pagliuca made his first public comment about his ownership proposal, promising never to enter the club into a resurrected European Super League and implying that a reconstruction of Stamford Bridge or a new stadium would be included in his plans.

On Wednesday, the 67-year-old, who is the co-founder of American private investment giant Bain Capital, issued another statement thanking the True Blues for their support. According to

ESPN

, the group "welcomes the endorsement and support of the True Blues Consortium, an organization dedicated to Chelsea and focused on advocating fan interests for the club."

Pagliuca described Tanenbaum as "a world-class individual, who is highly regarded in the worldwide sports community" while confirming his involvement. "His experience in sports governance, long-term outlook, and civil construction knowledge are wonderful benefits for our organization," he continued.

Pagliuca also promised to run the club "quietly and with honesty" if he succeeds in buying the club from

Roman Abramovich

, revealing that a formal offer will be made this week. "This process has been a tumultuous moment for the football club and its supporters," he added. "My ethos has always been to work quietly, with integrity, and to let my actions and results speak for themselves throughout my life and career.

"However, it is critical to reassure and clarify our bid group's obligations to supporters, as well as to emphasize how seriously we regard our possible responsibility to Chelsea."

"Later this week, we will submit a substantial and credible bid proposal – one that we expect to meet the

Premier League

's, UK Government's, and UEFA's respective requirements and regulations – and we pledge to uphold our commitment to credibility and good stewardship of Chelsea Football Club from day one."
