Peter Schmeichel angry with UEFA for restarting Denmark vs Finland

lambasted UEFA for making the "stupid choice" to reschedule Denmark's

match against Finland. 

After Eriksen collapsed to the ground and had emergency care from Denmark's medical personnel, the Group B match was called off with 41 minutes remaining. 

After recovering consciousness, the 29-year-old midfielder was transported to the hospital, and Kasper Hjulmand's team was given the choice of finishing the game on Saturday night or at noon the next day.

Finland finally won 1-0 with the second-half header from Joel Pohjanpalo, after UEFA declared that the match would resume at 19:30 "after the request given by players of both sides." 

Schmeichel, whose son Kasper played the entire game for Denmark in net, has now spoken out at European football's governing body for neglecting to safeguard the players following such a traumatic experience.

"It's a ridiculous decision by UEFA," the former goalkeeper told 

. "They should have tried to work out a different scenario and shown a little bit of compassion, and they didn't.

"That would be the worst two hours in my time in football. Something terrible like that happens, and UEFA gives the players an option to go out and play the game or come back at 12:00 on Sunday.

"What kind of option is that? The result of the game is completely irrelevant. I mean, how can you play?"

After learning that Eriksen was in a steady state at a Copenhagen hospital, Denmark coach Hjulmands announced that his men took the decision to finish the game. 

"You can't play a game with such feelings, [but] there were no players who could manage to go home, sleep and get up again [after what happened]," Hjulmand said post-match.

On Sunday morning, the Danish Football Association (DBU) updated Eriksen's condition, stating that the Inter attacking midfielder has been in contact with his coaches and teammates but will stay in hospital for more testing.

"This morning we have spoken to Christian Eriksen, who has sent his greetings to his teammates," the statement read. "His condition is stable, and he continues to be hospitalized for further examination.

"The team and staff of the national team has received crisis assistance and will continue to be there for each other after yesterday's incident."
