Argentina President reacts to the threat made against Lionel Messi by gunmen

Argentina president Alberto Fernandez has promised that the gunmen who threatened Lionel Messi will be punished.

Gunmen attacked the food store 'Unico' in Rosario on Thursday and fired 14 shots at the shutters of the store. The store is owned by Messi's wife Antonella Rocuzzo's family.

According to reports in

Argentina

, two individuals on a motorbike were seen fleeing the scene and no people were harmed.

They also left a note for Messi which read:

"Messi, we are waiting for you. Javkin [Rosario's mayor Pablo Javkin] is a drug dealer. He is not going to look after you.”

Argentina president Alberto Fernandez now has insisted that prompt action will be taken against the gunmen.

In an interview with Infobae, he said:

"[On Thursday] I woke up with very ugly news. I immediately contacted [Mayor Pablo Javkin] [and] I spoke directly with the chief of staff. I told him that something else will have to be done. We are doing a lot, but obviously, something more will have to be done. The problem of violence and organized crime is very serious.”

Messi was named the best men's player at the Best FIFA awards in Paris last Monday.

Paris Saint-Germain

will face Nantes in a Ligue 1 on Saturday, and

Messi

is expected to feature for his team.

They will play with Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie on Wednesday. PSG lost the first leg with one goal difference in Paris.
