Raphael Varane Targeted by Serie A Newcomers Como

French World Cup Winner Also Attracting Interest from Clubs Across Europe and Beyond

According to Fabrizio Romano, French World Cup winner Raphael Varane is being pursued by newly-promoted Serie A side Como, where Cesc Fabregas serves as assistant manager to Osian Roberts. However, the 31-year-old defender is also on the radar of several clubs in Europe and other regions.

Varane joined Manchester United from

Real Madrid

in 2021 for a reported fee of £41 million ($52m). Despite high expectations, his performance at United did not match his La Liga form, and he is now a free agent seeking a new club. Despite this, Varane likely has several productive years left in his career and could still achieve more success.

During his tenure at United, Varane won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup in 2023 and 2024, respectively. His time at Real Madrid was even more illustrious, with three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and four Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup victories.

As pre-season training approaches for teams in Europe’s top leagues, Varane, who has earned 93 caps for France, will be weighing his options. It remains to be seen which club he will join as the 2024-25 season nears, with Como and other potential suitors vying for his signature.
