Robin Le Normand to switch international allegiance to Spain

After starting his career with Brest, the 26-year-old defender joined Real Sociedad in 2016, where he made 105 appearances. With Luis de la Fuente ready to call up the Frenchman, Le Normand is reportedly ready to switch allegiance.

Establishing himself as a key part of Real Sociedad's squad, Robin Le Normand has racked up more than 100 La Liga appearances for Sociedad. Now, according to reports from

, Le Normand is ready to follow in the footsteps of his fellow Frenchman Aymeric Laporte and obtain Spanish nationality.

Although the defender is three years short of the requirement to automatically obtain Spanish citizenship, it's been reported that the Spanish Higher Sports Council is ready to request an exemption.

Despite never representing his home nation at the international level, Le Normand earlier insisted he will remain committed to France. With a major change of mind, he's likely to be available for Spain's qualifiers next month.

Signing for Sociedad in 2016, Le Normand made 82 appearances for Real Sociedad B before being promoted to the first team, where he gradually established himself as one of the key players, signing a four-year contract in 2020. He also was chosen as La Liga Player of the Month in October 2021.
