Neymar took off the field on a stretcher giving PSG a huge injury blow

After providing a goal and assist in PSG's Sunday Ligue 1 clash with Lille, Neymar sustained a right ankle injury that led him to be taken off the field on a stretcher.

Shortly after the start of the second half,

Neymar

went down after a clash with Lille's Benjamin Andre, apparently injuring his right ankle. Unable to walk off the pitch, the 31-year-old winger was in distress as he was carried from the field.

Matters got worse for PSG as Jonathan David converted a penalty that Marco Verratti committed on Tiago Djalo before Jonathan Bamba completed Lille's comeback in the 69th minute. Under pressure PSG boss Christophe Galtier hopes Neymar's injury not to be as serious as it first appeared as they have to fight back a Champions League 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich next week at Allianz Arena.

Neymar who earns €30 million a year has a contract with PSG until 2027. He joined the French club in 2017 in a deal worth €222 million, and since then has scored 117 goals in 172 matches. The former Barcelona star has won four Ligue 1 titles during his time in France.

The Brazilian striker scored 15 goals before the World Cup break this season but only has managed to score two goals in the new year. PSG is five points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table but lost with one goal against Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League last 16 round on Tuesday.
