Gerrard is eager to become Leeds United’s manager
After sacking Jesse Marsch from the dugout, several coaches ruled out taking over the relegation-threatened Leeds United. The former England and Liverpool midfielder is reportedly interested in taking the role.
Marsch took over in February 2022 after Bielsa was fired and helped the club barely fight off relegation on the last day to finish 17th. The situation hasn’t gotten better this season, with
Leedslosing key players like Raphinha and Kalvin Philips.
Since then, several managers rejected the role, with the latest rejection coming from Feyenoord coach Arne Slot who joined Iraola and Raul Gonzalez in rejecting the Whites' offer. However, according to
Football Insider,
Steven Gerrard
is "very keen" on the Leeds job as he eyes replacing Marsch as the dugout.
Gerrard's latest role was with Aston Villa, where he got sacked in November 2021 following six defeats in their starting 11 league games.
The club has spent £129 million in the transfer market this season, with the acquisition of the likes of Rutter, Wober, and McKennie.
Marsch’s side hasn’t won a game since the beginning of the World Cup, which saw them defeat Bournemouth 4-3. Their recent loss against Nottingham Forest happened with a section of fans even booing Marsch at the end of the match.
