Unless he’s fit for the group stage, Lukaku won’t go to the World Cup

Internazionale superstar has been out with an injury for the majority of the season so far and now his World Cup participations is put in doubt by Martinez

The 2022 World Cup may be just around the corner but For Romelu Lukaku it may not be the best of news, since Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has announced that he won’t take him to the World Cup unless he is fit to play all three group matches.

Lukaku who is back at

Inter

albeit on loan from Chelsea was looking to return to form in preparation for the World Cup but the former Chelsea man couldn’t catch a break since he has been sidelined since Agust with a hamstring injury and since coming back Lukaku has suffered a muscle injury as well, which puts his appearance in the

World Cup

into question.

Recently L’Equipe publication inquired about the Lukaku situation to which Roberto Martinez replied:

"The decision will be made just before we announce the list. It will relate to the three first-round matches. If he is fit to participate in one of those, he is a player we want in our team. If he cannot, he will not be selected.

"We are seeing signs of improvement, but we will wait until just before the announcement to give us more time. We have to assess the improvement to help estimate the timeline for his recovery. If he's fit by Dec. 1, he'll be with us."

Obviously, Martinez alongside any Belgium fans hope that Belgium’s all-time leading goalscorer (68 goals) is with them, but Lukaku’s fitness remains a question that will be answered when Martinez announces his final squad for the tournament on Thursday.
