Michael Carrick in advance talk with Middlesbrough

The former England midfielder is on the verge of being chosen as the new head coach of Middlesbrough.

Reports suggest that Michael Carrick has opened advanced talks with Middlesbrough to manage the team.

Chris Wilder was sacked as Boro manager on 3 October after a fifth defeat in 11 league games and elimination from the Carabao Cup defeat to Barnsley. Currently, Leo Prokovic is in charge of the team on an interim basis, and Craig Liddle, Mark Tinkler and Lee Cattermole were his assistants during this time. During this period, Boro managed to beat Birmingham, but lost against Milvar and Blackburn.

The former Manchester United midfielder, who won 5 Premier League titles during his 12-year tenure in this team, is known as the club's main option to replace Wilder. During the last 48 hours, the negotiations between the two sides have started and the club hopes to officially announce his selection as the new head coach in the coming days.

Carrick worked as an assistant to Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was in charge of the Red Devils as interim manager until the appointment of Ralf Rangnick. If he is chosen as Middlesbrough manager, it will be his first time in charge of a team on a permanent basis. England boss Gareth Southgate, who is close to Boro owner Steve Gibson, is said to have offered Carrick to the club.
