Middlesbrough announced Chris Wilder sack

The wave of sackings continues in the Championship and the former manager of Sheffield United was also removed from the management of Middlesbrough.

Chris Wilder has been sacked after less than a year on the bench, Middlesbrough have announced.

Boro fell to 22nd place with a 1-0 defeat at bottom of the table Coventry on Saturday, and they have won just two of their 11 Championship matches. Wilder took over at Middlesbrough in November 2021, succeeding Neil Warnock. He managed to win 6 consecutive victories in his first 10 games, but failed to reach the championship playoffs with a difference of 5 points.

Club's statement reads:

"Middlesbrough Football Club have terminated the contract of manager Chris Wilder with immediate effect.

"Leo Percovich will take over first team affairs in the interim basis, assisted by Craig Liddle, Mark Tinkler and Lee Cattermole.

"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Chris and his staff for all their hard work over the past 11 months."

With the dismissal of Wilder, now a third of the Championship clubs have had changes in their clubs since the beginning of the season. Before him, Rob Edwards (Watford), Steve Morrison (Cardiff), Danny Schofield (Huddersfield), Michael O'Neill (Stoke), Shota Arveladze(Hull City) and Wilder were the coaches who were sacked since the beginning of the season and Paul Warner left Derby for Rotherham. He was replaced by Liam Roseniver and Alex Neil left Sunderland to take over at Stoke.
