Chelsea’s Sarr joins Monaco on a loan contract

Malang Sarr has departed the Blues to join Monaco on a loan contract that might turn to a permanent deal for €15million.

, with his contract including an option to buy.

Monaco’s option to buy may be mandatory should some conditions be met, as per recent reports.

Sarr made a move to Chelsea in 2020 when he became a free agent but they sent him on a loan spell at Porto, where he played in 19 matches.

He went back to Chelsea for the previous season and was part of the first team squad, featuring in 21 games, but just eight of them were in the Premier League.

Th 23-year-old goes back to Ligue 1 after two years and has been one of the best defenders in Europe after his breakthrough at Nice.

Sarr is the fourth signing of Monaco this summer, with the other three being Takumi Minamino, Breel Embolo and Thomas Didillon.

Monaco’s hope for Champions League qualification was ended when they lost 3-2 at the hands of PSV on Tuesday, suffering a 4-3 aggregate loss.
