Mancini’s mother on Balotelli after Italy World Cup miss

Mario Balotelli has not featured for the Azzurri since 2018; however, Roberto Mancini’s mother thinks that he should have assisted the team in order to see off North Macedonia.

Roberto Mancini

is going to look for answers as his side did not get World Cup qualification and his mother gave one:

Mario Balotelli

should have been called up.

Marianna Puolo talked on Rai Radio 1 on Friday and said that

Italy

could have used the help of Balotelli win against North Macedonia.

Balotelli, who plays for Turkish Super Lig

Adana Demirspor

, has been Mancini’s favorite for so long as the two were together at

Inter

and Manchester City.

The 31-year-old was recalled for Azzurri’s training camp in 2022 and he last played in 2018.

However, there was no place for him in the national team squad and their loss at the hands North Macedonia means they will miss the finals in Qatar.

"

We had the game in our hand, but the attack was not great,"

said Mancini's mother.

"What would I have done different? I would have called Balotelli, because he has incredible physical strength and nobody stops him in front of goal.

"Sometimes he does stupid things, but I would have called him."

The Azzurri made 32 shots but failed to find the target against North Macedonia, who found the target in stoppage time.

Puolo accepted her son’s post-match verdict that it is his career’s biggest disappointment.

"

Yes, because in his career he has more or less always done well,"

she said.

"I heard him this morning, he was sorry, but we know that these things happen in sport."

If Jorginho hadn’t missed the penalty in their draw with Switzerland, Italy would not have needed a penalty.

Mancini's mother commented on Jorginho, saying:

"Of course he didn't do it on purpose, poor thing, but if you miss two or three penalties, in the end, you pay for it."
