Zamalek give update on Ferjani Sassi & Abou-Gabal's future at the club

Ahmed Mortada Mansour, a member of the Zamalek SC board of directors, addressed whether or not Tunisian playmaker Ferjani Sassi may be re-signed.

Zamalek failed to succeed in their first

CAF Champions League

group-stage match after being held to two straight stalemates, the most recent of which was a 0-0 draw versus Angola's Sagrada Esperança.

With two points, the Egyptian club are presently in third position, one behind Wydad Casablanca and two behind Petro Luanda. Nonetheless, Sagrada Esperança is stuck at the bottom of the rankings with only one point.

Regardless of the outcome, Mansour stated that the team is completely concentrated on next week's match against Wydad Casablanca and reassured supporters about the future of manager

Patrice Carteron

.

“An important match awaits us in a week. There are a lot of rumours about changing the technical staff, and this is not the appropriate time,” Mansour told TEN TV.

“What was reported about holding a session with a Spanish coach to take charge of the team is just rumours. The same type of rumours that suggested we were in negotiations with Hossam El-Badry.

“We are brave enough to publicly say if we want to replace Carteron with another coach,” he added

.

After his performances in the Africa Cup of Nations, which led Egypt to the final, Zamalek keeper

Mohamed Abou-Gabal

has recently become a hero amongst Egyptian supporters.

With his agreement due to expire at the conclusion of the season, Abou-Gabal has been connected with a number of destinations abroad, particularly in Saudi Arabia.

Mansour, on the other hand, affirmed that the 33-year-old will not be sold since he is an important component of their ambitions.

“Mohamed Abou-Gabal confirmed that he did not sign for any other club, and that he will remain with Zamalek, the club he desires. He’s performing very well for us, and god willing, he will continue with the team."

Mansour concluded his comments by disclosing if the team intends to re-sign

Ferjani Sassi

, who departed the club last summer to join Al-Duhail in Qatar.

“As for what was reported about Ferjani Sassi’s return to Zamalek, if the board want him back, they are able to do so,” he concluded.
