Mason Mount's ankle injury could cost him missing the EFL Cup final

Mason Mount is set to miss two weeks due to an ankle ligament injury, and is therefore in a battle against the clock to be available for the Carabao Cup finale.

Chelsea face Liverpool at Wembley on February 27, but one of their important players may be unavailable for the match.

Mount was replaced after suffering an ankle soreness 31 minutes into Chelsea's

Club World Cup

final triumph over Palmeiras on Saturday. Christian Pulisic took the replacement and Mount departed the arena on walking aids.

The 23-year-old was rushed for a physical examination after the match, and The Athletic reports that the damage suffered by the England international was not as terrible as initially thought, and he will only be out for two weeks.

This not only knocks him out of Saturday's

Premier League

match against Crystal Palace and the first leg of their

Champions League

last-16 meeting against Lille the following week, but it also means he will miss the Carabao Cup final.

Assuming Mount is not healthy in time to play Liverpool a week on Sunday, he might return the following Wednesday in Chelsea's

FA Cup

fifth-round match against Luton Town.

Mount had the same ankle injury in September 2019 following a powerful tackle by Francis Coquelin in Chelsea's Champions League match against Valencia, however, he was only sidelined for five days at the time, and Chelsea will be wary of hurrying him back at this point.
