Hakimi helps Morocco seal a spot in the AFCON quarter-finals

The Morocco international had a crucial role in helping his country make its way to the quarter-finals of the AFCON.

Morocco

reserved a spot in the last-eight round of the

Africa Cup of Nations

as

Achraf Hakimi

met the back of the net to seal his side’s 2-1 victory over

Malawi

.

The PSG full-back netted 20 minutes from time after Youssef En-Nesyri leveled the game and canceled Gabadinho Mhango’s first goal.

After making their way through Group B, Malawi made their first appearance in the Round of 16 in the AFCON.

Morocco scored the opener through Mhango, and in their last 11 games against sides they met for the first time in this competition, they have only lost once.

Vahid Halilhodzic’s men then pulled the game level courtesy of EN-Nesyri’s strike.

Just when it seemed like there would be extra time, Hakimi scored the winner for his side and helped his side book a spot in the last eight, where they will lock horns with either Ivory Coast or Egypt.
