‘Mourinho is not the problem, Roma must stick with him’ - Totti

Former Roma striker Francesco Totti has offered his support to the club’s under-fire manager Jose Mourinho and believes the Portuguese coach is not the problem.

Mourinho

was sacked by

Tottenham

in April after a torrid run of results and was appointed as

Roma

’s manager in May after they part ways with

Paulo Fonseca

.

Things started positively for the former Tottenham and

Manchester United

manager as the Giallorossi won their first six games in all competition, But they could not maintain that form and have won only four of their last 12 games.

That has left them sixth in Serie A, already 13 points behind league leaders

Napoli

, with Mourinho’s reign threatening to fall apart even at this early stage.

However, Totti does not believe Mourinho is at fault for Roma's slide in form.

"If we think Roma's problem is Mourinho, it means we have everything wrong,"

Totti told Sky

.

"Mourinho has won more than all the other Serie A coaches combined – hats off to him.

"You have to focus on him. He is a great coach and a great motivator. He knows how to manage the group, he knows what to say and what to do.

"The club and the fans must stick with him."
