Ceballos and Mingueza injured in Spain’s draw with Egypt

Dani Ceballos and Oscar Mingueza have sustained injuries during Spain’s clash against Egypt in the men’s Olympics football tournament.

Spain

manager

Luis de la Fuente

has lost

Oscar Mingueza

and

Dani Ceballos

to injuries in their Tokyo opener.

The Olympic team’s head coach is worried that

Barcelona

’s Mingueza and

Real Madrid

midfielder Ceballos’ recoveries will not be swift.

He also slammed the officiating of the game that let Egypt enforce their physical game on the match that ended with a clean sheet draw.

Talking about the injured players, who had to be sent off during the first half, De la Fuente said:

"They are the greatest concern. They do not look good. Let's see if I'm wrong and they can recover.

"We are very concerned because they could be serious injuries."

When De la Fuente was quizzed about Egypt’s approach, after receiving four yellow cards, he recommended that they should have had more discouragement from that forceful tackling.

He said, quoted in

Marca

:

"The other day we had a talk in which they explained to us how the VAR works and we hope that next time we will have better luck with the sanctions that take place in the field of play because today we have not had it.

"We had a meeting that explained the actions that could be punished with a red card. Today there were several of them and they were not punished as they told us."

Mingueza had pulled off a great performance at Barcelona last season, featuring in 39 senior games after joining from Barcelona B.

Ceballos went back to Real Madrid before the start of the new campaign, playing for Arsenal on loan for two seasons. He did not meet the target in 40 games for the club but contributed three assists.
