Wijnaldum's brace shatters van Basten record as Holland make history

Holland have now scored twice or more in each of their past ten games, shattering a record established in 1935. Following their 3-0 win against North Macedonia on Monday, the Dutch are on an unmatched goalscoring streak.

Frank de Boer's side has a flawless record in

Euro 2020

, having won Group C with victories against Ukraine and Austria.

Memphis Depay

scored the first goal against North Macedonia in the first half, while

Georginio Wijnaldum

added a second before the hour mark.

The triumph over North Macedonia was the 10th time the Netherlands had scored at least two goals in a match.

That is the team's longest such streak in history, surpassing the previous mark of nine recorded in 1935.

With his brace, Wijnaldum now has 25 goals for the Netherlands in just 78 appearances.

In the list of best scorers for the Netherlands, he is ahead of

Marco van Basten

, who has 24 goals in 58 games.

Rafael van der Vaart, who completed his career with 25 goals from 109 appearances, is now equal with the new Paris Saint-Germain player. He is now three goals behind Depay.

Depay not only scored the first goal, but he also assisted his old PSV teammate Wijnaldum on the other two.

Depay is just the second player in the Netherlands' history to strike and assist in a match in both the World Cup and the European Championship. Wesley Sneijder was the only other Oranje player to accomplish so.
