Meret to sign a new four-year deal at Napoli

The Italian goalkeeper is set to extend his stay at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona until 2025.

Having left Udinese with a €26m deal,

Alex Meret

joined

Napoli

in 2019. The Italian goalkeeper faced competition from

David Ospina

to secure a starting spot at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. However, according to

La Gazzetta dello Sport

, the club have assured the 24-year-old about his starting role under the team’s new manager

Luciano Spalletti

. Meret’s current deal runs until 2023 and he is set to sign a new four-year deal with the Italian club.

Meret featured in 22 Serie A matches for Napoli last season. The young goalkeeper managed to keep six clean sheets for Gennaro Gattuso’s side as they finished fifth in Serie A. Meret is currently on international duty with Italy and his contract extension is unlikely to be finalized until after Italy’s Euro 2020 campaign.

Napoli are reportedly interested in selling David Ospina, with Atalanta being mooted as the most likely destination for the experienced goalkeeper.
