Domenech returns after 10 years of absence from professional football

Raymond Domenech returns after 10 years out of professional football and is set to keep Nantes from relegation.

Domenech

ended his 10-years absence from football with a short-term contract with

Ligue 1

side

Nantes

.

He resigned after the poor performance of France in the 2010

World Cup

that was marred by a mutiny and it was reported that there were clashes between members of the coaching staff and senior players.

Nikolas Anelka

appeared as a lambast to Domenech and was subsequently excluded from the team before a fight broke out between captain

Patrice Evra

and one of Domenech’s coaches and led to the team, not to training.

France then lost 2-1 to

South Africa

as Les Bleus finished bottom of their group, and that proved to be Domenech's final game in charge.

Since then, Domenech's only management role was in

Brittany

for three years until 2019.

He formally and informally competes with international matches against other nations as a representative of the northern-west region of France.

But now after a decade away from the game, he is back in Ligue 1, with his first club role since 1993 when he left Lyon.

"The technician is committed until the end of the 2020-2021 season."

He takes over Nantes amid something of a relegation battle, with the club only three points above the bottom three.
