A Complete History of Juventus Goalkeepers

Founded in 1897, Juventus is a 123-year-old club that has seen so many goalkeepers playing for it in its long hisotry, however, the oldest record at hand about the history of Juventus goalkeepers dates back to 1921. Since that time, 60 goalkeepers have served Juventus, though some of them made only one appearance for the top Italian club during their serving time.

In this post, as we mentioned above, we are going to give you a

Juventus record of goalkeepers

which is quite complete in its own prime and comprises of 60 goalkeepers. In order to keep it within your patience limits, we have to just make a very brief mention of each goalkeeper on the list lest the post might get too long to read. Also, please keep in mind that there is no photo at hand of some of these goalkeepers which is quite natural because some of them are as old as a century.

A Complete Juventus Record of Goalkeepers

Below is a complete history of Juventus goalkeepers. Again, please keep in mind that many of the goalkeepers on the list were not Juventus’ top or even first-team goalkeepers. Some of them also served the top Italian club in two time periods.

Emilio Barucco (1921 to 1923)

The farthest goalkeeper of Juventus in the oldest available recorded history of the club, Emilio Barucco served Juventus between 1921 and 1923 making 11 appearances for the club and conceding 15 goals in the process. He played a total of 990 minutes for Juventus and died in 1982 at the age of 83.

Gianpiero Combi (1921 to 1934)

Not only considered as one of Italy’s best goalkeepers ever but also as one of the best goalkeepers in the world in 1930s, Gianpiero Combi served only Juventus during his career and between 1921 and 1934 where he made 368 appearances for the club and played around 33k minutes for them. He died in 1956 at the very early age of 53. Combi is considered as one of the five best goalkeepers in Juventus’ history.

Gino Rimini (1922 to 1923)

Another

goalkeeper of Juventus

who made only one appearance for the club, Gino Rimini played only one complete 90-minute match for Juventus in Divisione Nazionale (Italy’s top-tier league before Serie A) and against Spezia where he conceded one goal leading to his team’s 1-0 loss.

Romolo Sartoris (1923 to 1924)

Just like Gino Rimini, Romolo Sartoris also made one appearance for Juventus and in a match against Inter Milan within Divisione Nazionale which ended in a 2-2 draw. He played for 90 minutes in that match and, as you see, he conceded two goals.

Ezio Sclavi (1925 to 1926)

Born in March 1903 in Italy, Ezio Sclavi made a total of 270 appearances within Italian top-tier leagues between 1922 and 1935. The share of Juventus from all these appearances was one and in 1925-26 season where Sclavi played a full 90-minute match for the club and conceded two goals in the same match.

Silvio Caglieris (1926 to 1927)

Again a goalkeeper of Juventus with only one appearance for the club but this time not within the Italian leagues but in the Italian Cup; Silvio Caglieris played a full 90-minute match for

in February 1927 against Parma where he conceded two goals leading to his side’s 2-0 loss.

Angelo Bedini (1928 to 1929)

Finally a goalkeeper with more than one appearance for Juventus! Angelo Bedini made two appearances for Juventus between 1928 and 1929 and played for full 90 minutes in both where he didn’t concede a goal and managed to add two clean sheets to his overall clean sheets.

Alfredo Bodoira (1930 to 1941)

Alfredo Bodoira actually served Juventus for about two third of his career (11 years) and during this time made 82 appearances for the club. He also won one

title and one Italian Cup with the club. The most number of goals he received in a single full appearance for Juventus was in a match against Triestina in 1940 where he conceded 6 goals.

Umberto Ghibaudo (1930 to 1932)

A goalkeeper of Juventus with 4 appearances for the club, Umberto Ghibaudo was part of Juventus squad between 1930 and 1932. He played four 90-minute matches for the club within Serie A during which he conceded 3 goals and collected one clean sheet.

Cesare Valinasso (1927 to 1928 and 1929 to 1936)

The first goalkeeper in the

who was part of the club’s squad in two time periods, Cesare Valinasso served Juventus at the start of his career and for 8 years. In the first period (1927 to 1928) he made no appearance for the club, but in the second, he made 73 appearances and won two Serie A titles with them actually in 1933-34 and 1934-35 seasons.

Ugo Amoretti (1936 to 1940)

75 appearances in 4 years between 1936 to 1940 and in three competitions, namely Serie A, the Italian Cup, and Mitropacup; that is Ugo Amoretti’s appearance records with Juventus. He actually won no title or trophy with the club and the most number of goals he conceded in a full 90-minute appearance for them was in a match against Ambrosiana-Inter in October 1938 where he received 5 goals.

Cesare Goffi (1940 to 1942)

Died in 1995 at the age of 74, Cesare Goffi was part of Juventus’ squad between 1940 and 1942. Out of 40 total appearances that Goffi made during his career 7 were Juventus’ share and all within Serie A. He conceded 15 goals in all these 7 appearances - averagely two goals in each appearance - and managed to collect one clean sheet from them.

Attilio Bulgheri (1941 to 1942)

Among the goalkeepers with only one appearance for Juventus, Attilio Bulgheri made his only appearance for Juventus in a Serie A match against

in 1942 that ended in Juventus’ 1-0 win.

Carlo Ceresoli (1941 to 1942)

The first goalkeeper in the history of Juventus goalkeepers who won a World Cup trophy with the

, though he made only qualifying-round appearances for Italy, Carlo Ceresoli made only two appearances for Juventus and within Serie A in March 1942 in which he conceded 3 goals.

Egidio Micheloni (1941 to 1942)

Made 12 appearances or Juventus within Serie A (10) and in Italian Cup (2) in which he conceded 14 goals and from which he collected 3 clean sheets. The most number of goals Micheloni conceded in a single full-time appearance for Juventus was in a match against Lazio within Serie A where he received 4 goals and the match was lost 4-1 to Juventus.

Giuseppe Peruchetti (1941 to 1943)

Served Juventus at the end of his career and for 2 years between 1941 and 1943 where he made a total of 26 appearances for the club within Serie A and in

in which he conceded 42 goals - an average of 1.6 goals in every appearance - and collected 6 clean sheets. Peruchetti won the Italian Cup in 1941-42 season with Juventus and died in 1995 at the age 87.

Lucidio Sentimenti (1942 to 1949)

Served Juventus more than any other club during his career and for 7 years between 1942 to 1949. Sentimenti is actually the first goalkeeper in the

history of Juventus goalkeepers

who scored a goal - actually two goals - for the club. He made a total of 170 appearances, conceded 191 goals and collected 54 clean sheets during his service to the Black and Whites.

Giovanni Viola (1945 to 1958)

One of the few goalkeepers in the history of Juventus goalkeepers who made more than 200 appearances for the club during his service to them, Giovanni Viola made a total of 244 appearances in 13 years for Juventus and majorly within Serie A. During this time, he conceded 281 goals - averagely 1.15 goals in every appearance - and collected 80 clean sheets in all his appearances for the Black and Whites.

Filippo Cavalli (1946 to 1953)

Yet another goalkeeper in the history of Juventus goalkeepers who stayed with Juventus more than any other club during his career, Filippo Cavalli made only 26 appearances during the 7 years he was with Juventus. During this time, Cavalli conceded 30 goals and managed to collect 8 clean sheets from all his appearances for the Black and Whites.

Elio Angelini (1953 to 1955)

More than half of Angelini’s 93 appearances were within Serie A (49) - the rest were within

- and from all these 49 appearances Juventus got a share of 11 in which Angelini conceded 10 goals and managed to collect 4 clean sheets from. The interesting fact about Angelini is that Juventus lost in none of the matches he was the goalkeeper.

Giuseppe Vavassori (1954 to 1961) 

Made 81 appearances for Juventus between 1954 and 1961 at the start of his career where he conceded 97 goals - almost 1.2 goals in every appearance - and managed to collect 26 clean sheets. He also won three Serie A titles and two Italian Cups with Juventus during his service to them.

Giuseppe Romano (1956 to 1957)

Romano made a total of 6 appearances for Juventus and within Serie A in 1956-57 season where he conceded 10 goals - averagely 1.6 goals in every appearance - with no clean sheets at all. The most number of goals he received in a single appearance was in a match against

in October 1957 which ended in Juventus’ 3-0 loss.

Carlo Mattrel (1955 to 1965)

Died at the very early age of 39, Carlo Mattrel served Juventus for 10 years and at the start of his career. He made a total of 113 appearances for Juventus and conceded 147 goals - 1.3 goals in every appearance averagely - during his service to the club. He also managed to collect 34 clean sheets and win three Serie A titles and three Italian Cups with the Black and Whites.

Luigi Ferrero (1961 to 1964)

Ferrero was part of Juventus’ squad between 1961 and 1964 but only made two appearances for the club and not within Serie A in which he conceded 3 goals. One of these appearances were in Italian Cup in 1961 against AC Torino and the other in 1963 against the Serbian club, OFK Beograd, in Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.

Giuseppe Gaspari (1961 to 1962)

Made only 4 appearances for Juventus between 1961 and 1962 and all within Serie A where he conceded 11 goals - averagely 2.75 goals in every appearance which is actually more than the average of all the other goalkeepers in the

history of Juventus goalkeepers

, indeed up to this point.

Roberto Anzolin (1961 to 1970)

If you compare the number of appearances Anzolin made for Juventus with the other goalkeepers who were part of Juventus’ squad during 1960s, you could easily guess that he was Juventus’ first-team goalkeeper during the time mentioned above as it was really so. Anzolin made a total of 303 appearances for Juventus and conceded 257 goals - averagely 0.8 goal in every appearance - during his service to the club. He also managed to collect 137 clean sheets and win a Serie A title, an Italian Cup and a Coppa delle Alpi - an Italian discontinued friendly tournament - with the Black and Whites.

Angelo Colombo (1965 to 1968) 

Made 6 appearances for Juventus between 1967 and 1968 one of which was not complete, received 5 goals and collected 4 clean sheets. As you can guess, he received all his 5 goals in two matches from which 4 was received in a single match against

. He won a Serie A title with Juventus in 1966-67 season.

Pietro Fioravanti (1967 to 1968)

Fioravanti was part of Juventus’ squad in 1967-68 season, however, he only made two appearances for the club both of which were in a week. He conceded two goals in one match - actually against AC Torino - and collected one sheet from the other match which was against Bologna.

Massimo Piloni (1967 to 1975)

A Juventus player between 1967 and 1974, Massimo Piloni made a total of 27 appearances for Juventus which all except for one were between 1970 and 1972. He conceded 30 goals - a little bit more than one goal in every appearance averagely - and collected 6 clean sheets during all these appearances. Piloni won three Serie A titles with Juventus between 1971 and 1975.

Giuliano Sarti (1968 to 1969)

Sarti had his best moments with Fiorentina and Inter Milan between 1954 and 1968, and it was at the end of his career that he joined Juventus. He actually made a total of 11 appearances for Juventus, received 10 goals and managed to collect 4 clean sheets during their service to them. He never received more than 2 goals in a single match in all his appearances for the Black and Whites.

Roberto Tancredi (1968 to 1971)

Served Juventus at the start of his career and majorly in 1969-70 season, Tancredi made a total of 69 appearances for Juventus, received 56 goals - averagely 0.8 goal in every appearance - and collected 27 clean sheets during his service to them. Except for one match, he never received more than two goals in a single match.

Giancarlo Alessandrelli (1971 to 1972 and 1975 to 1980)

One of the few Juventus goalkeepers who served the club in two time periods, Giancarlo Alessandrelli made a total of 13 appearances for Juventus, received 23 goals - 1.7 goals in every appearance averagely which is one of the highest averages among Juventus goalkeepers- and collected 2 clean sheets during his service to them. Alessandrelli won two Serie A titles and an Italilan Cup with Juventus during his second period of service to them.

Pietro Carmignani (1971 to 1972)

Served Juventus in 1971-72 season during which he made a total of 37 appearances for the club, received 30 goals - 0.8 goal in every appearance averagely - and collected 12 clean sheets. Carmignani is mostly considered as a

player since that’s the club he served the most during his career.

Dino Zoff (1972 to 1983)

The legendary goalkeeper of Italy and Juventus which will never be forgotten! He’s actually among the

five best goalkeepers in Juventus’ history

and is the record holder of most number of appearances within Serie A with Juventus (332). He received 226 goals in all these 332 appearances which means he received 0.68 goal in every appearance averagely. He also managed to collect 167 clean sheets during his service to Juventus which was actually at the end of his career.

Dino Zoff also holds the record of longest time without conceding a goal in international matches (1142 minutes) and is one of the four goalkeepers in the history of football to have won FIFA World Cup as captain - actually 1982 World Cup. With Juventus, he won six Serie A titles, three Italian Cups, and one UEFA Cup. In one word, he was a not-conceder!

Stefano Bobbo (1976 to 1977)

He only served Juventus and he only made one appearance during all his career which actually occurred in an Italian Cup match against Vicenza in 1977 that ended in Juventus’ 2-1 win.

Luciano Bodini (1982 to 1989)

Although Bodini was part of Juventus’ squad for 7 years, he actually made 45 appearances for them in general which means he made averagely around 7 appearances for them each year, however, the most number of appearances Bodini made for Juventus occurred between 1984 and 1985 where Juventus managed to win a European Cup, a UEFA Super Cup, and an Intercontinental Cup. Bodini received 35 goals and collected 20 clean sheets in all his  45 appearances for Juventus.

Stefano Tacconi (1983 to 1992)

Another of the five best goalkeepers in Juventus’ history, Stefano Tacconi served Juventus for 9 years during which he made a total of 377 appearances for the top Italian club across all competitions. He actually won one Italian Cup, one European Cup Winners' Cup, and one UEFA Cup with Juventus when he was their first-team goalkeeper - he won other trophies with the club, too, but he was not part of the first-team squad in those victories.

Tacconi received 330 goals in all his 377 appearances for Juventus - 0.8 goal in every appearance averagely, collected 156 clean sheets and received 9 yellow cards during his service to them; an aggressive type of goalkeeper if you ask us.

Adriano Bonaiuti (1989 to 1991)

One appearance within Serie A in 1989-90 season and one clean sheet; that is Bonaiuti’s stats with Juventus!

Angelo Peruzzi (1991 to 1999)

Yet another of the five best goalkeepers in Juventus’ history, Angelo Peruzzi made a total of 301 appearances for Juventus during his service to them where he received 268 goals - almost 0.9 goal in every appearance averagely - and managed to collect 123 clean sheets. Although Peruzzi served Inter Milan, AS Roma and Lazio sometime during his career, it was Juventus that he served the most - for 8 years - and won almost all his club trophies with.

Peruzzi won a total of 11 club trophies with Juventus some of which are three Serie A titles, two Italian Super Cups, and one UEFA Champions League title. The interesting fact about Peruzzi is that he received three red cards during his service to Juventus - and 5 yellow cards; something which is even rare among the world goalkeepers - to receive 3 red cards at just one club. So, if we call Tacconi aggressive with 9 yellow cards, we should call Peruzzi super aggressive!

Michelangelo Rampulla (1992 to 2002)

Was part of Juventus squad for 10 years and actually served the top Italian club more than any other club during his career but only made 99 appearances for them. This is as he made 274 appearances in just 5 years for

. So as the numbers say, he was not Juventus’ first-team goalkeeper often, as it was really so.

In all his 99 appearances for Juventus Rampulla received 80 goals, 3 yellow cards and 2 red cards - he was kind of aggressive, too. He also managed to collect 42 clean sheets during this time. And with Juventus, he won 12 club trophies, though as we said above, he was not often the club’s first-team goalkeeper.

Fabio Marchioro (1993 to 1994)

Another of Juventus goalkeepers with only one appearance for the club, Fabio Marchioro made his only appearance for Juventus in a UEFA Cup match against

where he entered the pitch as a substitute in 50 minutes and conceded 1 goal that led to his side’s 2-1 loss.

Lorenzo Squizzi (1994 to 1995)

Squizzi is a product of Juventus who served the top Italian club at the start of his career and only for a season (1994-95 season). He only made two appearances for Juventus, one in Serie A and the other in the Italian Cup, and played a total of 21 minutes in these two appearances - 20 minutes in Serie A and only one minute in the Italian Cup.

Davide Falcioni (1996 to 1997)

Made only one ten-minute appearance for Juventus and in a Serie A match against Lazio in June 1997 where he also conceded one goal!

Morgan De Sanctis (1997 to 1999)

Made a total of 632 appearances for 8 clubs most of which from Italy during his career, however, the share of Juventus from all these appearances was 4 in which De Sanctis conceded 2 goals and collected 2 clean sheets. He played a total of 259 minutes for Juventus and won a Serie A title and an Italian Super Cup when with the club - actually between 1997 and 1998.

Andrea D'Amico (1999 to 2000)

Made only one appearance for Juventus in the Italian Cup and as a substitute where he played only for 3 minutes. He’s actually the record holder for the lowest number of minutes played for Juventus in the history of Juventus goalkeepers.

Edwin van der Sar (1999 to 2001)

Call him the great

! His best records are with Manchester United, however, with Juventus he was not bad either. He made a total of 88 appearances for Juventus between 1999 and 2001 and across several competitions where he conceded 74 goals - 0.84 goal in every appearance averagely - and managed to collect 41 clean sheets. He also received 2 yellow cards and 2 second yellow cards leading to a red card during his service to Juventus.

Fabian Carini (2000 to 2002)

Although part of the Juventus squad from 2000 to 2002, the Uruguayan goalkeeper, Fabian Carini, was for the most part either sidelined or not in the first-team squad. He only made 8 appearances for Juventus 6 of which happened in early 2002, received 12 goals - 1.5 goals in every appearance - and collected one clean sheet during his service to the top Italian club.

Gianluigi Buffon (2001 to 2018 and 2019 to 2021)

They say he’s the best goalkeeper Juventus and even Italy has ever had. Be it true or not, Buffon is the holder of a number of goalkeeping records which is incomparable to almost any goalkeepers’ records in football history. He holds more than 50 records 10 of which he attained when with Juventus and one of which is the most number of appearances a goalkeeper has ever made for Juventus.

made a total of 685 appearances for Juventus and in two time periods as has been mentioned in the title during which he received 539 goals - 0.78 goal in every appearance averagely - and received 10 yellow and 5 red cards. He also managed to collect 322 clean sheets and 22 club trophies during this time.

Antonio Chimenti (2002 to 2006 and 2008 to 2010)

Chimenti also served Juventus in two time periods, as has been mentioned above, during which he made 34 appearances, conceded 50 goals - 1.4 goals in every appearance averagely - and received one yellow card. He also collected 6 clean sheets during this time.

Christian Abbiati (2005 to 2006)

Served Juventus on loan from

and from 2005 to 2006 where he managed to make 27 appearances for Juventus during which he received 17 goals - 0.62 goal in every appearance averagely - and received one yellow card. He also collected 13 clean sheets during this time. One interesting fact about Abiati is that in most of the matches that he was Juventus’ goalkeeper, the top Italian club won the match.

Emanuele Belardi (2006 to 2008)

Was part of Juventus’ squad between 2006 and 2008 but made only 9 appearances for the Italian club during which he conceded 17 goals - almost 2 goals in every appearance - and collected one clean sheet.

Alexander Manninger (2008 to 2012)

The Austrian goalkeeper who served Juventus between 2008 and 2012, Alexander Manninger made a total of 42 appearances for the top Italian club during this time and received 43 goals which translates to around one goal in every appearances. He also managed to collect 13 clean sheets during his service to Juventus.

Marco Storari (2010 to 2015)

Served only Italian clubs during his career and Juventus for five years between 2010 and 2015 during which he made a total of 64 appearances and conceded exactly 64 goals which translates to one goal in every appearance. He also received 4 yellow cards and collected 21 clean sheets during this time.

Rubinho (2012 to 2016)

Was part of Juventus’ squad between 2012 and 2016, but only made two appearances for the club in which he played for a total of 47 minutes and received no goals. He also received one red card in these two appearances.

Emil Audero (2013 to 2017)

A product of Juventus  who also played from the club’s under-aged team (U19), Emil Audero actually made only one full appearance for Juventus’ senior team and in a match against

within Serie A in 2017 which ended in his side’s 2-1 win.

Neto (2015 to 2017)

Made a total of 22 appearances for Juventus between 2015 and 2017 during which he received 15 goals - 0.68 goal in every appearance averagely - and collected 13 clean sheets. He’s almost good or even better if you compare him to the goalkeepers who made more or less the same number of appearances for Juventus in almost the same or longer periods of time.

Carlo Pinsoglio (2010 to 2022)

Again a product of Juventus but this time with a better longevity,

has been part of the Juventus senior squad since 2010, however, he’s been majorly on loan to lower-tier clubs since. All in all, he has made 4 appearances for Juventus in all these years in which he has conceded 4 goals and collected one clean sheet.

Mattia Perin (2018 to 2022)

Recently returned to Juventus from his loan to Genoa, Mattia Perin has been part of Juventus’ squad since 2018, however, during this time, he has only made 10 full appearances for the top Italian club where he has received 10 goals and one yellow card and has managed to collect 5 clean sheets.

Wojciech Szczesny (2017 to 2022)

We can call him Juventus’ first goalkeeper since 2018-19 season; In 2017-18 season, when Szczesny joined Juventus, he mostly acted as a back-up to Buffon, but right after Buffon left Juventus for PSG, he took up his place and kept it even after Buffon made his return to Juventus.

Up to this date (October 2021), Szczesny has made a total of 148 appearances for Juventus, has received 133 goals - almost 0.9 goal in every appearance averagely - and 4 yellow cards, and has managed to collect 59 clean sheets. He became Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year in 2019-20 season and has won three consecutive Serie A titles, two Italian Cups, and two Italian Super Cups since he has joined the Black and Whites.
