The Best Premier League Teams of All Time

Here's a look at the list of best Premier League teams of all time.

Since its creation in 1992, the Premier League has begun to fight for the championship of the top European league. The boss was Italy's Series A in the late 1990s. Then the rise of the La Liga, with Frank Rijkaard's and Pep Guardiola's

Barcelona

teams came. Recently, at least in sports, the Bundesliga threatened.

Since the last two decades, the league has been so reliably powerful that some truly impressive teams have been active.

Over the past few campaigns,

Manchester City

and

Liverpool

have brightened the Premier League, landing some of the highest points ever seen, and played unbelievable, aggressive football.

Some consider the newly formed Liverpool as the best team in the history of the PL. In this way, let's take a look at their historic rivals,

Premier League

's best teams of all time. Our judges have been on more than the points these sides have got in the course of the season.

The best Premier League teams of all time

Here's a look at the list of best Premier League teams of all time

Manchester City 2017/18

At the end of the 2017/18 campaign, Manchester City set a record with an amazingly impressive 100 point mark for the most of points ever achieved during the Premier League. It was for the seasons that came before 1995/96 where each of the teams played 42 matches rather than 38.

The records that were broken by the Citizens were ridiculous, setting new standards for the most points, the most successive wins, most wins, and the most goal difference.

Maybe the only assumption against this team being top of the biggest teams in the Premier League is the strength of rivals they were facing. With

Man United

,

Chelsea

and

Arsenal

all deteriorating, would City have done so much with harder opponents?

However, in 2018/19 they maintained their championship with the second-highest record ever, 98 points, defeating Liverpool in one of the most thrilling climaxes of the PL. It seems like Liverpool eventually took over as the best team in the early stages of the

season yet, should the Citizens somehow make it back to finishing a title hat trick, there seems to be little doubt that they're one of the best Premier League teams of all time.

Chelsea 2004/05

While the above-mentioned Manchester City side were built on creative, offensive philosophies, the team of Chelsea that star-rising Jose Mourinho organized in his first campaign in Premier League 2004/05, were built on a truly impermeable defense and a mentality of 'us against the world.'

It's almost beyond belief that Chelsea set a record that stood up well over time to this point by conceding only fifteen goals and keeping twenty-five clean sheets. Jose Mourinho, who had merely called himself 'The Special One,' converted Stamford Bridge into a

stronghold and started an undefeated home run that eventually lasted for 86 matches, five campaigns more! The Blues were definitely not going forward either, given their defensive heroics. With Drogba, Gudjohnsen, and Lampard's trio netting 51 league goals, Chelsea finished the campaign with 95 points, the highest in the history of the PL at the time.

Whether that team of Chelsea is one of the

best Premier League teams of all time

is subject to discussion however no team is likely to overtake them defensively.

Manchester United 1998/99

This rundown will be incomplete with only one of Man United sides. They are without debate the most famous club in Premier League history.

Those who made up the greatest Premier League side in 2008/09 – including superstars such as Wayne Rooney, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Dimitar Berbatov, Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez, Patrice Evra, Edwin Van Der Sar and etc. seemed to be unparalleled in the last few years.

Yet many believe Manchester United 1998/99 side was stronger; a team including a squad of mostly British and Irish stars who also represent the All-Time XI Premier League with Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, and Paul Scholes; One of the

best Premier League teams of all time

United won the league with only one point in the climax of rivalry between Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger. This was the first hat-trick with Premier League titles, an achievement that still remains to be matched.

Manchester City 2011/12

It is true that Manchester City hasn't honored somewhere throughout the 2011/12 campaign, with the nearest they come to becoming a semifinal competitor in the League Cup, but more than compensated for it with the way they dominated the league winning the title.

After many mistakes with Thaksin Shinawatra, the Mansour Group's made it. Ultimately the team placed third in 2010/11 and remained competitive in Premier League.

In their 12 first matches, they played in a domineering fashion with just losing two points and 6-1 derby thrashing of Man United at Old Trafford. Three non-winning games saw them losing eight points in mid-April, however, found their own way again approaching the final round.

During that day, their rivals,

QPR

, were on the edge of relegation. This was a stunning reversal that would have been a simple victory easily. As QPR lead 2-1 while they played with ten players for most of their second half and secured their premier championship in impressive with two goals from

Edin Dzeko

 and

Sergio Aguero

Manchester United set the milestone with 89 points for the highest points ever without winning the Premier. A reputation and the stability which place them in the rundown as the second United team.

Manchester United 2007/08

The Premier League always has incredible teams that will compete well with any squad in history. Yet one team stands out from the others. The 2007/08 side of Man United might not have earned the highest points of all time, but the strong competition they encountered made the title-winning squad one of the

best Premier League clubs ever

.

Arsenal and Chelsea had both come together and Gunners had led the league in early March. Yet United found their way, finally dominated the London team, and skillfully answered the Chelsea challenge.

In the end, United topped both with an amazing front trio of  Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, and Carlos Tevez, who produced 57 of the 80 goals of the club. On the other side of the ground, Sir Alex Ferguson skillfully marshaled Edwin van der Sar and Nemanja Vidic to make an undoubtedly strongest defensive line ever by the Red Devils.

If it wasn't enough to win the championship, United even managed to lift

UEFA Champions League

winning against Chelsea on penalties. They could not make their way to the final easily, particularly in the semifinals, where they faced the mighty power of Barcelona.

Manchester United would retain the title by Ferguson three more times, but the performance of the sides never really surpassed it.

Manchester United 1999/2000

Having this squad appears unjust yet more than the famous three victors of the previous season – the successes of the 1998/99 side were certainly more unforgettable.

Yet Manchester United increased points by 12 in 1999/2000 and netted 17 additional goals than the treble winners of 1998/99. While they had the last day revival in 1998/99 in order to capture the championship, by 18 points margin they won it in 1999/2000.

It was almost the same side as the last year with David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, and Ryan Giggs as the strongest midfielders of the Premier League along with Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke's relationship forming a super front line with mega subs TeddySheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Mikael Silvestre offered a great pace and the only failure was to replace Peter Schmeichel by Mark Bosnich in goal but still, they might be regarded as one of the

best Premier League clubs in history

.

Leicester City 2015/16

The amazing championship of Leicester was so surprising that it appears difficult to equate the wins of others and yet it is a massively successful run by 10 points margin in the league.

Leicester

only lost thrice throughout the campaign.

The rulebook was rubbed off by Claudio Ranieri 's team that season. Although others were concerned with possession, Leicester were mostly investing in counter-attacks.

The Premier League record was broken by Jamie Vardy for netting in successive matches and the League's best performer,

Riyad Mahrez

was able to score, create space for others and produce assists whilst the strong and all-action defensive midfielder was N'Golo Kante.

Yet in all, it was a heroic performance of the strongest defensive teams ever played in the second half of the season in the Premier League.

They came up with responses when facing challenges, with super-sub

Leo Ulloa

to press higher or play directly. The league winners are the most exceptional among the best ever.

Liverpool 2018/19

Unbelievably the Reds did not win the league. However, their 97 points could have seen Liverpool crowned champions of every campaign preceding 2018. Therefore we can consider the side as one of the

best Premier League teams of all time

.

No one expected Jurgen Klopp 's team will encounter a significant title threat, after reaching a complete 25-point advantage in that season. However, none knew how bad it would be.

The Reds were a power to be feared after improving their defense with the record-breaking purchase Virgil van Dijk in January of that season and buying Roma Torkeeper Alisson in the summer. Mohamed Salah undoubtedly wasn't quite the athlete he had become since returning from injury the year before, but he still won the Golden Boot along with

Sadio Mane

and

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

from Gunners.

Roberto Firmino

and Mane were also his teammates in the Anfield attack line, and two of the strongest wing-back in the world were Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson.

In missing only one match all campaign against Manchester City, the Reds took their place not just as the strongest team not to win the title of the Premier League, but also one of the best full stop teams of the Premier League. That is why we listed them as one of the

best EPL teams of all time

.

Manchester City 2018/19

Greatness often calls for great hardship. It was definitely done by the Liverpool players in 2018/19 for Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola men had to live up to a lot after having set a new milestone for Premier League points that campaign. Winning the last 14 back to back matches and breaking their own record for most winnings in a campaign the year before-helped them lift the club's first successive championship.

If they hadn't won one, they had offered Liverpool the crown, which completed the season as second with a single point margin. That is another reason to view the Citizens as one of the

best Premier League teams of all time

.

Kevin De Bruyne, with productive powers missing half of the season from fracture, Fernandinho aging 34 years old at the end of that season, and Captain Vincent's injury, still the Citizens displayed frequently their strength. By the final analysis, though, there have been some famous names that have been the face of triumph. Sergio Aguero had always been as efficient as he always was,

Raheem Sterling

hitting greater levels, and

David Silva

with 33 years of age displayed brilliantly.

Chelsea 2016/17

It is often complicated to put contemporary accomplishments in the historical hall of fame, however, no one can question Chelseas 's latest title win.  During one of the world's most exciting seasons in the Premier League, Antonio Conte earned 93 points as the second-best in the history of the Premier League since 2004-05.

After a disastrous beginning, Chelsea turned the formation to 3-4-3 and kept a stunning run of six clean sheets and 12 consecutive wins, bringing them from eights to the runaway championship favorites. Opponents couldn't control

Marcos Alonso

's and

Victor Moses

' overlapping runs pairing with Eden Hazard threateningly moving inside from the side and Diego Costa scoring goals.

In the second year of

N'Golo Kante

was offering limitless strength and skills in the midfield. Also, Conte found a spot to support prolific Cesc Fabregas who was consistently on the bench during the early weeks.

Manchester United 1993/94

In the formative years of the Premier League, Manchester United had been frequent champions, but this one was their most successful victory of the 1990s: a magnificent, impressive, reliable team. Following 40 of their 42 games, they were at the top of the standing.

It was known as a 4-4-2 tactically, while it was maybe considered by many as the first 4-2-3-1 EPL club. A frightening collaboration with Paul Ince was formed by newcomer Roy Keane, both of them were box-to-box players rather than holders.

Three of Andrei Kanchelskis, Ryan Giggs, and Lee Sharpe offered impressive pace, whereas upfront the wonderful Eric Cantona played behind Mark Hughes, a great old-fashioned center forward. The defensive line had scarcely ever been split up;

Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister lost only a single game and Paul Parker two. In this situation, they were both there.

Denis Irwin played all the matches and Peter Schmeichel became the greatest goalkeeper in the league. Nobody was fortunate against them and they deserve to be regarded as one of the

best Premier League teams of all time

.

Arsenal 2003/04

The first side to stay unbeaten in the top tier of English football after

Preston North End

secured the same accomplishment in the initial football league back in 1888-89, the invincibles of Arsenal were a wonder to behold.

Arsene Wenger, then at the climax of his dominance where we consider his side as one of the best Premier League clubs of all time, literally declared it as early as September 2003 as he said:

"This is not unlikely because it was once achieved by

AC Milan

so I can't understand why it's too surprising to claim it. Do you not think that Manchester United, Liverpool or Chelsea see it too? They are really dreaming about the same thing. They probably don't mention it as they're afraid to seem stupid because no one in this role is foolish since we know everything can take place in football."

Having 12 draws in the campaign, Arsenal's 90 points are not comparable to the all-time records in the competition, but the accomplishment of being undefeated ensures they clearly deserve to be regarded as one of the best Premier League teams ever.

By the end, their unbeaten winning streaks lasted for 49 games until Manchester United stopped them from hitting 50, winning the 'Fight of the Buffet' where reportedly Cesc Fabregas threw a slice of pizza at Sir Alex Ferguson.

Liverpool 2019/20

The 2019-20 campaign was the Reds' 128th year and the 58th season in English football's top flight. That's also Liverpool's 28th back to back season in the Premier League. The team also played in the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Community Shield, the UEFA Super Cup, and the

FIFA World Cup

. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the campaign was postponed from 5 April to 17 June.

Liverpool was second in the Premier League in 2018–19 and lost 5–4 on penalties competing in the 2019 FA Community Shield against Manchester City. As 2018-19 UEFA Champions League champions they played against Chelsea in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup defeating the Blues 5–4 on penalties.

The triumph was Liverpool's fourth in the yearly contest where just Barcelona and A.C Milan have more victories, five each. Another reason to list them as one of the

best EPL teams ever

.

In the quarter-finals of the 2019–20 EFL Cup, The Reds were defeated by

Aston Villa

after fielding a fairly young side, led by Liverpool's under-23 manager Neil Critchley, as the first-team squad took part in the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar.

After losing championship as runners-up three times in the tournament, Liverpool secured its First World Cup FIFA Club in the wake of winning against Brazil's

Flamengo

1-0, turning into the first English team to lift the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Liverpool had struggled to defend the UEFA Champions League trophy after a 4-2 loss following two games against

Atletico Madrid

in the 16th round. Liverpool clinched the 19th league championship on 25 June which was the first from 1989-90 and the first in the Premier League era.

Since securing the title, the Reds achieved the unique feat of securing the Premier League title sooner than any other side by the number of matches; having 7 remaining games and later than any other side by time; being the first club to end in June. The deserve to be considered as one of the best Premier League teams of all time.
