Established in the latter decades of the twentieth century,

Paris Saint Germain

Thiago Silva-Defender

Paul Le Guen- Midfielder

France has always been a great place for African players to demonstrate their potential and show the world how good they are. One of the greatest African stars in League1 history is Jay-Jay Okocha. The Nigerian born in 1973, started his European career in Germany while 17. After shining in Bundesliga's Eintracht Frankfurt and a remarkable spell at Fenerbahce, Okocha moved to Paris Saint-Germain for an African record of 14 million pounds.

He made 84 League appearances for PSG and scored 12 goals. The skillful player, called African Maradona, also served as a mentor for young Ronaldinho during his time in Paris. He won Trophée des Champions in 1998 and UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2001 with Parisians. Okocha is considered a successful African player in the national team.

He won the Africa Cup of Nations and Summer Olympic Games with the Nigeria national team, relatively in 1994 and 1996. This arguably best Nigerian player in history has been named Footballer of the Year in his nation seven times. Furthermore, he was entitled BBC African Footballer of the Year both in 2003 and 2004. Jay-Jay Okocha was selected as the best player and top scorer in the Africa Cup of Nations in the latter.

Pedro Pauleta

Next on the list of PSG LEGENDS OF ALL TIME is Pedro Pauleta. The Portuguese born in 1973 might not be a shining young talent in his opening years of playing. However, he turned into a goalscoring attacker in Estoril, Deportivo La Cruna, and Bordeaux, which led to his move to France's capital. At Paris Saint-Germain, the veteran Pauleta expressed outstanding performance and spent successful years.

He scored 109 goals in 211 matches played for the Paris side, and he is also a 3-time League1 topscorer. Pedro won two Coupe de France trophies and a single Coupe de la League with PSG. Pauleta was selected two times as the League1 footballer of the year by the professional football players' national union. In Portugal's national team, Pauleta scored 47 goals in 88 matches, which puts him before great names like Eusebio or Luis Figo. Only the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more national goals than Pedro Pauleta for the European Selecao.

David Ginola

The next name in the list of PSG Legends of all time is a player who earned much experience in French and English football leagues, but his longest time and best stats were in Paris. Born in 1967, David Ginola started his senior career at 18 and joined Paris Saint-Germain in 1992. 

He spent three seasons at the club and won a division1 trophy besides three other domestic titles. In Paris Saint-Germain, he made 141 appearances and scored 40 goals as a midfielder and winger. Ginola became the 1993 French Player of the Year and was selected as the French Division 1 Player of the Year, thanks to his 1993-94 season performance. 

After PSG, his individual honors continued while he entered the FIFA XI in 1996 and was named 

Tottenham Hotspur

 Player of the Year in 1998 and PFA Players' Player of the year in 1998-99. After retiring from football, Ginola entered the cinema world as an actor.

Claude Makelele

Claude Makelele is one of the Greatest Players in the History of Paris Saint-Germain, although he has spent the last years of his football life in this club. Makelele is arguably one of the best players in his position in football history. An aggressive midfielder who served as a weight for his team in the middle of the field.

Makelele won many domestic titles in Real Madrid and Chelsea. Furthermore, he won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Intercontinental Cup with Real Madrid in 2002. His only trophy at PSG was the 2009-10 Coupe de France. This Chelsea's 2005 Players' Player of the year, made 71 caps for France national team and was a member of the finalist team in 2006 World Cup. Good to know that Claude Makelele has been PSG's assistant coach from 2011 to 2013 after retiring from football. He has also served as head coach in Bastia and Eupen so far.
