Off the Pitch: Euro 2020 – Day 20

More than half a month has passed since we kicked of Euro 2020 with a bang. What went on yesterday as national teams rested before the start of the quarterfinal? Follow us below as we take a look at everything that happened off the pitch in Euro 2020 day 20.

It is hard to believe that we are already in the quarterfinals of Euro 2020 and not even one team from the so-called “Group of Death” is present in this round. With

Germany

, France and

Portugal

already shockingly out of the way, all teams in the tournament are surely motivated that they too can become the champions of Europe by the end of the competition.

Sadly, we didn’t have any games yesterday, but the next round will start tomorrow. While national teams unwind before the next stage of the tournament, much happened off the pitch on social media and we can’t wait to share them with you. Read on as we provide you with all the details you might want to know about.

Euro 2020 – Day 20 Review

From Harry Kane sharing his joy of finally breaking his goal-scoring duck with his fans, to more fingers being pointed at each direction inside the France national team and the England squad unwinding after their 2-0 win against Germany, much happened off the pitch as drama continued for Kylian Mbappe. So without further ado, here is everything that went on. You can also check out our

, where have discussed the same issues in detail with beautiful graphics.

This Moment

England

hero Harry Kane shared a picture of his memorable goal against Germany on Instagram as he celebrated England’s famous win at Wembley. The Tottenham striker posted the exact moment of his header with the caption saying: “This moment”. The 27-year-old will surely be buzzing as he got to break his goal-scoring duck in England’s most important match in the tournament so far.

Harry Kane made his international debut in March 2015, when he was 21 years, 7 months and 27 days old. He has since managed to make a total of 58 appearances, scoring 35 goals and providing 13 assists in the process as well. He will surely be looking forward to his next match to get his goal-scoring engines running at full speed.

No Entry

The Italian Government has apparently threatened England fans not to travel to Rome for England’s quarterfinal clash against Ukraine. The decision to bar them comes from the fact that according to Italy’s regulations and border controls, all who arrive from the UK must go into isolation for five days in a hotel or a private residence, which would make it impossible for England fans to make it out of isolation in time to see England lock horns with

Ukraine

.

The 2,500 seats allocated to English fans have been handed to UEFA as they plan to sell these tickets to as many English expats as they can. Of course some England supporters might try to outsmart the Italian government and try their luck by bending the rules, but a fine of up tp £2,500 has been issued for anyone daring enough to break the rules.

You get the blame, you get the blame, everybody gets the blame

As people are still in shock of France’s sudden elimination from Euro 2020, more and more details about the French squad’s mood from prior to the game is revealed as journalists continue pointing fingers. It is now revealed that there was a growing unrest amongst France players, who were fed up with both a “sulky”

Kylian Mbappe

and the poor facilities of the hotel they were staying in.

The PSG star was reportedly annoying everyone with him sulking over his spat with Olivier Giroud and the players were not in much of a good mood after they were told they can’t see their families. This growing dissatisfaction and all the disharmony that was present in the squad turned into sudden spats on the pitch in the match against

Switzerland

, with French players reportedly trading insults during the game.

The most obvious one was of course Paul Pogba’s row with Adrien Rabiot, whose mum later caught up with Pogba’s parents and got them involved in a heated exchange with herself. Veronique Rabiot, Adrien’s mother, was also seen having a dispute with Kylian Mbappe’s mother as she claimed that the Paris Saint-Germain forward is arrogant and that they need to work on him to be less so.

Another beautiful day to unwind

While we don’t know how England will line up against Ukraine and how they are going to perform in the quarterfinals, we know that the Three Lions sure know how to unwind and cool off before an important match. Gareth Southgate’s men were previously pictured enjoying some pool time as they used inflatable killer whales to make the best out of their day.

And now they have been seen taking a stroll through their grounds to relax and recover from a memorable win against Germany. With more good news for England fans, Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell, who were in self-isolation after testing positive for COVID, are now back with the England squad and are ready to give it their all for their nation. The team also enjoyed some time playing water volleyball as they seemed to have fun doing so. Of course there was a slacker in the team too, with Jordan Henderson apparently not having any desire to join the team.

Gareth Southgate might have to be careful not to stick too much to his victory against Germany. We have already seen the likes of Hungary and Switzerland making history at Euro 2020 and Ukraine have enough passion to join the history-making underdogs club as well. We might have to wait and see how each team lines up against each other as the media shoves the “it’s coming home” chant into everyone’s face. This arrogance might prove to be too costly for England, which is exactly what

Luka Modric

claimed the people around the Three Lions have.
