Referee Attempts: Between Errors and Improvement

How does the head of the referees’ committee in the Saudi League deal with burdens and challenges?

Manuel Navarro, the head of the referees’ committee in the Saudi Football Federation, revealed how to deal with referees who make mistakes that affect matches in the Saudi Professional League.

In his statements to the “Middle East” newspaper, on Monday, Navarro pointed out that the referees did not make many mistakes that affect the results of the matches this season, and when this happens, the concerned clubs communicate with the committee, and it is discussed whether there are actual errors or not, which is considered a positive thing due to the good relationship between the parties.

He also explained that if the referee commits a major mistake, he will be suspended, confirming that they do not mind admitting mistakes in front of the media.

Navarro confirmed that they receive requests from some clubs not to assign certain referees from the Saudi referees due to previous positions or decisions, but they do not respond to these requests, confirming their respect for all opinions, indicating that assigning referees is the responsibility of the committee, and they do not accept interference in their work.

When asked whether the committee takes into account the clubs’ requests to appoint foreign referees from the elite, Navarro explained that the clubs do not set conditions when requesting, and that this matter is up to the committee, indicating that they have a list that includes 7 international referees, and they assign the appropriate referees for each match according to their evaluation.
