Ten Hag urges Man United to learn to win without Eriksen and Casemiro

The Danish midfielder was sidelined since he sustained an ankle injury in January. Although Man United's boss confirms Eriksen is close to making his injury return, he insists his side should win without their key midfielder.

After a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday, Man United will try to bounce back on Wednesday when they face Brentford in a Premier League clash. Christian Eriksen, who is yet to play since he picked up an ankle injury in January, is close to returning. However, he won't be able to play for his side on Wednesday.

"He's not ready for tomorrow but he's returning to the pitch and into team training today, so we now have to see how quickly he can make progress,"

Ten Hag said at a press conference.

Man United's problems at midfield are further complicated by Casemiro's four-match suspension following his red card in their draw against Southampton. Accepting losing two key players has an impact on his side, Ten Hag urges his squad to step up.

"They are two quality players. In the midfield department, games will be decided. When you miss two quality players, it's a clear [impact], but you have a squad and, when you don't have them, you still have to win,"

he added.

Following their defeat to Newcastle United and Tottenham's draw with Everton on Monday, Man United dropped to fifth place in the table. However, Ten Hag believes his side has no issues in securing results against Premier League opponents.

"We played 60 minutes against Southampton with 10 men, we beat Fulham, that's a Premier League opponent, we beat Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, a Premier League opponent, so there's no concern - we know we can beat Premier League teams,"

he concluded.
