Inter's Calhanoglu a doubt for Champions League clash with Benfica

Inter star Hakan Calhanoglu could miss the Champions League quarter-final clash with Benfica next month.

Hakan Calhanoglu left the pitch in the first half of Turkey’s Euro 2024 qualifier defeat to Croatia due to a thigh muscle injury.

Inter announced on Thursday that tests have revealed Calhanoglu had pulled a muscle in his right thigh and that his condition would be reassessed in the coming days.

It is unclear how long the 29-year-old midfielder will be out of action, but this kind of injury usually forces players to sit out of action for a few weeks.

He will miss Inter’s upcoming game against Fiorentina and the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals against Juventus, as well as the league game against Salernitana.

They face Benfica in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final on April 11 and the Turkish midfielder is a serious doubt for that game.

Inter is in third place in Serie A and is in a battle to stay in Serie A's Champions League positions. Calhanoglu has played in 35 matches for Inter in all competitions this season, scoring three goals.
