Mikel Arteta bemoans Brentford's offside equalizer

Leandro Trossard seemed to have scored an essential goal in his debut for the Gunners in the 66th minute. However, Ivan Toney equalized with a header 8 minutes later to seal a 1-1 draw.

Ivan Toney's goal was reviewed by VAR but it was allowed to stand as

Arsenal

lost two points from their home clash with Brentford.

Mikel Arteta

believes the decision should have been otherwise. He told his post-match interview:

"Yes. I just looked and it is offside, yes. It is frustrating but they will probably give an explanation later in the week. Today we haven’t got one. You have to apply certain principles in defending but that depends on you following the rules.

“I think it was a really strong performance. They are a really tricky team to play against so credit to them, but I think we did a lot in the game. To have what happened in the way it happened is frustrating. You always think about tiredness and with a few players especially when you lose. I’m delighted with how the boys tried and how much they wanted.

Asked whether set pieces are a problem for Arsenal, Arteta added:

"Of course. You want to improve in every area. We are the third best team in terms of defensive set pieces. We want to be the best and we discussed that today because this is their biggest strength. I thought we controlled them because we thought they would be offside but they weren’t."
