Guardiola claims they 'do not have a chance' against Man Utd if they play like they did against Southampton

Manchester City were stunned by the Saints as they were knocked out of the EFL Cup after a 2-0 defeat

Pep Guardiola admits that Manchester City “do not have a chance” against

Manchester United

if they perform like they did against Southampton and not learn from their mistakes.

Southampton may be hovering in the relegation zone but the Saints soundly beat EPL contenders Man City. The Citizens who were defeated 2-0, failed to register a single shot on target which makes it the first time in 5 years that has happened to Guardiola’s men.

The Spaniard was fuming after the defeat and went on to tell reporters:

"The best team won. They were better. We didn't play well. We had a bad start and we didn't perform good. Today was not even close to what we are. We were not prepared to play in this competition to get to the semi-finals. We were not ready.

"You have to be prepared for every single game when you play for Manchester City and today we were not. If we perform this way (in the Manchester derby) we do not have a chance. I have the feeling today the line-up doesn't matter, the performance happens. We were not here."

Individual mistakes from Sergio Gomez and Stefan Ortega led to two goals for the Saints but even bringing on the likes of De Bruyne, Rodri and Haaland didn’t make it any better for Guardiola and his men.

Man City

now have to focus on their big clash on Saturday which would be the Manchester Derby. With Arsenal playing in the North London Derby as well, this could be a significant week in the title race.
