Arnautovic: Manchester United tried to sign me several times

Bologna star Marko Arnautovic has confirmed that he was close to joining Manchester United in the summer.

The 33-year-old

Arnautovic

joined

Bologna

in 2021 and managed to score 15 goals in 34 appearances for the Italian team last season.

Arnautovic who played in the Premier League with West Ham and Stoke was linked with

Manchester United

in the last summer transfer window and they even made an €8m bid for him but Bologna rejected their offer and the Austrian stayed at his club.

Speaking to Laola1, Arnautovic has confirmed that he was close to leaving Bologna in the summer and admitted that it was a difficult decision to stay in Italy.

“Manchester United tried to sign me several times and it was a difficult decision to stay in Italy because my family wanted to return to England.

“For me it’s clear that the Red Devils remain at the top of the universe and Bologna, as a name, are not. But that’s fine.

“Here everything is calm, you have time for yourself and no stress. This is only good for me.”

After leaving West Ham in 2019, Arnautovic played for two years for Shanghai SIPG in China. He has a contract with Bologna until 2024 and this season has scored 8 goals in 13 league matches.

Arnautovic is the most capped and joint-second highest scoring player in the history of the Austrian national team.
