Real Madrid confirm Karim Benzema will be out for at least three weeks

The French striker picked up a hamstring injury in the Los Blancos' Champions League opener and will be out for at least three weeks. The Frenchman might even miss the upcoming World Cup due to his injury.

Real Madrid

started their

Champions League

campaign in fashion with a 3-0 away victory over Celtic at Glasgow. However, the injury of their

French

star hit the reigning Champions League and La Liga holders.

Karim Benzema

took a knock in the 26th minute of their Tuesday match at Glasgow, being replaced by their Belgian winger,

Eden Hazard

a few minutes later as the France international headed straight down the tunnel.

Real Madrid confirmed

in a statement that Benzema

"has been diagnosed with an injury to the semitendinosus muscle and an overload on the quadriceps, both in the right thigh

", meaning that the Frenchman has sustained a hamstring injury.

The

World Cup

winner will miss at least three weeks of action as the potential date of his return is entirely unclear due to the nature of his injury.

Although

Celtic

held up a 0-0 draw at half-time, second-half goals from Vinicius Junior,

Luka Modric

, and Eden Hazard sealed the Los Blancos a 3-0 victory in their first Champions League game of the season.

After facing

Mallorca

in their next La Liga match on Sunday, they will continue their Champions League journey at home against

RB Leipzig

, who got crushed by Shakhtar Donetsk 4-1 yesterday.
