Brentford is close to signing Sampdoria's Mikkel Damsgaard for €18m
After signing Aaron Hickey from Bologna this summer, the Bees are looking to sign another Serie A star as the Danish midfielder appears on their radar.
A key part of the Denmark team that reached the semi-finals at the Euro 2020,
Mikkel Damsgaardjoined Sampdoria in 2020 on a €6.7m deal and established himself as a key part of Marco Giampaolo’s side, providing two goals and 4 assists through 49 appearances.
Now according to
Sky Sports, Brentford are keen to sign Damsgaard this summer as they submitted a deal worth around €11m plus €7m in add-ons for the 22-year-old midfielder. The two parties are reportedly optimistic about reaching an agreement. Liverpool, Leeds United, and Tottenham were all interested in signing Damsgaard last summer. However, it seems
the Beeswon't face too much competition for the Dane this summer.
After signing Aaron Hickey, Keane Lewis-Potter, Thomas Strakosha, and Ben Mee, Brentford seems to be in the market for a midfielder as they lost their star midfielder,
Christian Eriksen. Eriksen joined Brentford on a short-term deal last January after recovering from a cardiac arrest he suffered in Euro 2022 and this summer decided to join Manchester United as a free player on a three-year deal.
During the half-season Christian Eriksen had at Brentford, he scored once and assisted four times in 11 appearances, proving that he could still play to a high Premier League standard which earned him a move to
Manchester Unitedthis summer.
