Kasper Schmeichel after PSV match: We have a lot of faith in ourselves

Leicester are through to the semi-finals of the Europa League after beating PSV

Leicester City

goalkeeper

Kasper Schmeichel

believes the club can rewrite history after reaching a European semi-final for the first time. The goalkeeper was part of the Leicester City sides that broke new ground by winning the Premier League title in 2016 and the FA Cup last year, and he captained them to a 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven in the

Europa Conference League quarterfinals

.

Schmeichel moved to Leicester from

Notts County

for £1 million in 2011 and has been a part of their incredible success ever since. 'A lot of us have been here a long time, and we continue to make history,' Schmeichel added. 'There's another chapter that needs to be written, and why shouldn't we do it?'

"We are a promising club up against a European football juggernaut. We made things difficult for ourselves, and luck was not on our side, but we stuck it out and got the job done - it demonstrates a top mentality. That is what we strive toward, and it is something that I am proud of.

'We have a lot of faith in ourselves and the path the club is taking.' Personally, I am thrilled to be the captain of my club and my country (Denmark). These are the highest honors an individual may receive.' We'll just have to wait and see what happens next. Last year, we demonstrated that in order to win the FA Cup, we need to beat top teams. We must accept the challenge.'

Brendan Rodgers

' replacements were spot-on, with Ademola Lookman and

Patson Daka

making an immediate impact after coming on at half-time, and Ayoze Perez setting up James Maddison for the equalizer. 'We are a young club in terms of European experience,' he continued, 'but everyone grows on evenings like these.' It's an incredible thrill to reach the first semi-final.'
