Former Liverpool midfielder says the Reds wanted a 4/5 years extension

Pedro Chirivella has uncovered he turned down a drawn-out agreement from Liverpool in the mid-year to join Nantes all things considered

The 23-year-old midfielder left Anfield as a free agent following seven years at the Merseyside Reds, joining

FC Nantes

in

Ligue 1

At the first of his career, he transferred from

Valencia

to Liverpool with a £2.07m bargain in 2013 and found his way up from the U18s to the U23s in the interceding years.

He was not a happy player in his time at Anfield, with him spending most of his seven years on different loan spells in clubs such as Go Ahead Eagles, Willem II, and Extremadura.

The Spaniard only played 11 matches for Liverpool's senior squad -a sum of 650 minutes- and he already surpassed that record in the French side.

His takeoff from

Liverpool

receive little attention from the fans, yet he uncovered the club were exceptionally interested to keep him.

“We were in full negotiations with Liverpool, who offered me a fairly long 4-5 year contract and we didn’t know what to do,” he said.

“Then Nantes came with an interesting proposal for me and talking to the coach, president… we decided it was the best option, and I came to Nantes in June.

“I know it is a club with a history in France that has done great things and, honestly, I did not expect to go to France.

“I wanted to go back to Spain, and the confinement changed everything. When Nantes came, I didn’t think twice.

“I wanted to leave Liverpool, and I wanted to play. It was a clear proposal with which I did not have much doubt when signing. It was quick.”
