Match details

After their

Barcelona

quarter-final annihilation, Bayern could have been predicted to smash Lyon as well. However, it was ultimately the French side who started out stronger, with Memphis Depay reaching the side net after being assisted by Maxence Caqueret.

Depay

started another strike after

Leon Goretzka

was almost scoring the first goal but he did not make it and

Karl Toko Ekambi

also hit the post from close range after the fact.

Serge Gnabry hence gave a lesson to wasteful rivals unleashing a spectacular left-footed strike. Gnabry netted the second goal in the wake of Marcal's error in the defensive line. Lewandowski once again struggled to score the third goal but he failed.

Perisic could have done it early in the second half but he lost it.

Alphonso Davies

took his speed to snuff out a few attempts from Lyons, and Manuel Neuer was engaged when the men of Rudi Garcia launched some strikes, catching Marcelo's header at first, and then making a brilliant save to deny Toko Ekambi.

Lyon must have continued to seek a way back to the match, but the introduction of

Moussa Dembele

and

Jeff Reine-Adelaide

was not enough.

Maybe in one glance at the final game, Flick substituted goal scorer Gnabry with Coutinho, Jerome Boateng was also replaced by

Niklas Sule

at the break. Shortly afterward the Brazilian put the ball on the net, but it was rejected correctly.

From

Joshua Kimmich

's free-kick Lewandowski added the third goal.  Bayern Munich have played in the UEFA Champions League final ten times lifting five trophies. Now they're only one match away from getting a sixth championship.

Now, in the Champions League final Bayern will encounter

Paris-Saint-Germain

. Bayern Munich have an exceptional competitive attitude, in addition to having world-class talents in a program ideally built for them by Flick.

When questioned if any footballer has accepted that Bayern probably won't win the

Champions League

, Serge Gnabry answered, "Any match." After the semi-final, every footballer addressed that the work had not yet been completed. It only fulfills our wishes by securing the Champions League.

"Davies is still going to get much better" - Boateng

With his effectiveness in Bayern's victory over Barcelona, Alphonso Davies increased his popularity even higher among football fans worldwide. His unbelievable strike to assist Joshua Kimmich was an amazing moment of the game, and the Bavarians realize how talented he is.

"I tell 'wow' about that assist! It was fantastic," Boateng said. "This doesn't always happen when such brilliant teenager bursts and discovers his place with respect to his growth. I'm really pleased with his performance and he's a very likable guy."

Lewandowski joins Ronaldo in Champions League records

The header of Bayern's Robert Lewandowski in the Champions League against Lyon provided him spot in the history of this tournament.

It was the 15th goal of Polish striker at the competition this campaign, a part of a spectacular 55-goal record in all games.

Cristiano Ronaldo

is the only footballer to surpass the number. He did so amazingly thrice all with Real Madrid.

The 5-time Ballon d'Or winner set the record for 17 goals in the 2013-14 season. Now, for nine straight champions league games, Lewandowski has scored at least a goal.

In the course of as many consecutive appearances, just Ronaldo in 2018 with 11 and former Manchester United superstar Ruud van Nistelrooy with 9 have done it before.

Match stats

For the 11th time in their history, and for the first time since winning the 2013 title, Bayern reached the Champions League finals. Serge Gnabry is 3rd goal scorer of the tournament with nine goals, which have been all netted away from home.

Robert Lewandowski who has never won the competition is the leading scorer this season with 15 in the tournament. He also clinched the goal charts in the Bundesliga with 34 and the DFB Cup with 6 goals this campaign.

Bayern is on track for a second continental treble since 2012/13, having won the Bundesliga and the DFB Cup previously. Barcelona doing as such in 2008/09 and 2014/15, is still the only European team to have accomplished this feat.

In all competitions, Bayern Munich have won 28 of their 29 matches, with only a 0-0 in February against

RB Leipzig

. After the restart, all 14 games have been won behind closed doors.

Flick's team netted 42 goals this campaign in 10 outings meaning they average 4 goals in each game.

Bavarians have now won a record of 10 straight Champions League matches, which are equivalent to the longest winning series in the history of the tournament, previously accomplished in 2013 by Bayern Munich and in 2015 by

Real Madrid

.

Bayern better than 2013 treble heroes - Neuer

According to skipper

Manuel Neuer

, Bayern Munich today has more potential than before back in 2013. "Overall we are better placed," he added.

"We already have a group that involves not just the 18-man squad, it's amazing what a wonderful team we have." These achievements were difficult to dream of as Bayern struggled earlier this season under Niko Kovac.

"He's really calm, particularly before matches like this," Neuer said. "No matter which rivals we managed to play against, he trained us very well for it. We still come up with a strategy. On the ground, you will see the outcome.

Bayern must improve against PSG - Flick

After the game, Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick stated his side needs to defend stronger in the Champions League final against PSG.

"We realized it was going to be challenging, they come off the back of fantastic games against

City

and

Juventus

," Flick told Sky after Bayern secured their tenth straight Champions

League match, "They are tactically good and they gave us trouble early on. We should remember we need to defend stronger, we can not give away the ball quickly."

PSG will play in their first Champions League final after eliminating RB Leipzig 3-0 this week.

"PSG is a fantastic side, they played amazing games through the semi-final. We're trying to evaluate those stuff, we understand they have good footballers," said Flick. His team has scored 42 goals in this season which is the second-best record behind the 1999-00 Barcelona team with 45 goals.

"We must try to improve our defense but we believe that our power is bringing pressure on our rivals."

Bayern Munich can now start training for the final match at the Estadio da Luz to face PSG who seeks the first title in the UEFA Champions League.
