Inzaghi hails Inter's "hunger and desire" after 2-1 win at Sassuolo

The Nerazzurri are bouncing back after their poor start with a Tuesday 1-0 victory over Barcelona and another 2-1 win at Sassuolo on Saturday. The under-pressure Inter boss hails his side's "desire and hunger”.

This season, Inter’s boss

Simone Inzaghi

is under a lot of pressure after starting the Serie A season with four defeats in their seven games, dropping all the 3 points against Lazio, Milan, Udinese, and Roma.

After a 1-0 Champions League victory over Barcelona,

Inter Milan

seems to get back to winning ways after grabbing a precious away victory over

Sassuolo

on Saturday.

Edin Dzeko

scored twice to grab Inter all three points while Davide Frattesi scored the temporary equalizer for the host in the 60th minute. Inter boss Simone Inzaghi told

DAZN

after the match:

“We were really hungry to win and that allowed us to push past the physical and mental fatigue.

“It was a very intense match against Barcelona, so the incredible desire to win proved decisive today. These two victories give us a boost of confidence and for our position in the table. It’s a delicate period of the season.”

The Inter veteran

Samir Handanovic

was dropped and was replaced by

Andre Onana

in the Inter squad this season. However, Inzaghi revealed the pre-match speech the Inter legend gave in the locker room.

“Handanovic is a valuable member of the squad, on the field and off. It’s the only way we can continue together and he’s not the only one, as the substitutes also gave a big contribution off the bench today.

“Onana played the way I expected, he is a goalkeeper of quality and already proved he can challenge a champion like Handanovic for his place. I won’t say who plays against Barcelona, just as I won’t for the other roles.”

The Inter boss went on to back Inter youngster,

Kristjan Asllani,

who is trying to replace Marcelo Brozovic in the squad but was replaced at half-time today.

“Asllani did very well with Roma, it was not easy, and he was on a yellow card today. I saw a few 50-50 tackles he didn’t go into because of the card. He is settling in well, I am satisfied with his performances so far.”

Talking about

Lautaro Martinez

’s goal drought, Inzaghi added:

“I told Lauti, I was a striker and I worried when I didn’t have chances, but playing the way he is, the goal will come soon

.”
