Henderson: "In my life and my career, money has never been a motivation"

On July 2023 Henderson signed for Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq.

Captain of

Liverpool

, Jordan Henderson, left the team after 12 seasons and joined Al-Ettifaq. Al-Ettifaq FC paid Liverpool £12 million for this transfer.

Henderson said about joining Al-Ettifaq that money has never been a motivation for him.

"That was the hardest thing. People will see this club come with loads of money and he’s just gone, 'Yeah, I’m going.' When in reality that just wasn’t the case at all. People can believe me or not, but in my life and my career, money has never been a motivation. Ever. Don’t get me wrong, when you move, the business deal has to be tight. You have to have financials, you have to feel wanted, you have to feel valued. And money is a part of that. But that wasn’t the sole reason. And these possibilities came up before money was even mentioned,"

Henderson told The Athletic.

Henderson scored 33 goals in 492 games for Liverpool and was able to win the Premier League and Champions League titles with this team.

In their next game in the Saudi Pro League, Al-Ettifaq will play against Abha.
