Haller is happy for playing his part in Dortmund’s victory over Koln
Netting a brace in Dortmund's Saturday 6-1 victory over Koln, Haller helped his side to sit on top of the table ahead of Bayern Munich, who will face Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday. The Ivorian is delighted to play a part in his side's triumph.
After beating cancer, Sebastien Haller returned to playing football just for three months as he scored only once across 12 appearances before his brace against Koln, which drew criticism for his lack of goals. After scoring twice on Saturday, the Ivorian striker is happy to play his part in their victory.
"If you think after just a few weeks everything that happened in the six months before is forgotten, that would be a big mistake."
Haller played important role in Dortmund's build-up play as his side is on a 10-game winning streak since his return. Dortmund's sporting director Sebastian Kehl said: "These goals will give him a boost.
"What has been surfacing in the last few weeks is not justified after everything the boy has been through. His work has paid off and he feels the support of the whole club."
Marco Reus, who also scored twice in Dortmund's victory against Koln, became the club's all-time record scorer by 161 goals as he intends to retire at the Westfalenstadion.
"I have said it in the past weeks, months, years that I would like to end my career here," said Reus, whose current contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
"I feel really good. We are in talks [over a new deal]. Everything else will become clear in the coming weeks."
