Barcelona suffer transfer blow in bid to sign Villarreal's Juan Foyth

Barcelona is reportedly interested in signing Villarreal's Juan Foyth in the summer to fill their gap at right back.

Barcelona

has been consistently linked with several right-backs in the last few months, and

Villarreal

defender

Juan Foyth

is one of their top targets.

Sport newspaper claims that Villarreal is refusing to negotiate with Barcelona, and they may try to sign their other options. Foyth is under contract with his current club until the summer of 2026 and has a release clause around of €60m, but Barcelona is unwilling to pay that.

The 25-year-old defender won the World Cup last year with Argentina. He joined Tottenham in 2017 and later joined Villarreal in 2020. He has scored three goals in 88 matches.

Barcelona president Laporta recently confirmed that they will enter the market for a new right-back in the summer.

He said:

“We must sign a right-back, while a CB will depend on the market possibilities. A striker surely yes, but it is likely that someone will have to leave. We have a great midfield and I don’t see the need to sign someone there,”

Xavi has usually used Jules Kounde at right-back this season, and Sergi Roberto and Ronald Araujo are his other options.

Reports suggest that Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot and Thomas Meunier are also on Barcelona’s list for the right back position.
