Fernandez to undergo Chelsea medicals in Portugal ahead of £105m move

After his marvelous performance in the 2022 World Cup with Argentina, Chelsea's third £105m offer finally broke the deadlock in Fernandez's transfer as the player is set to undergo medicals in Portugal ahead of a January deadline day move.

Enzo Fernandez

was one of the key players for Argentina on their road to winning the World Cup in Qatar and ended up winning the Young Player of the Tournament award. Following his impressive World Cup campaign,

Chelsea

has been relentless in their pursuit of the midfielder but Benfica hasn’t backed down, suggesting that Premier League clubs pay his release clause, which is around £106m.

Now assured of the deal after making a £106m bid for the midfielder,

Sky Sports

reports that Enzo Fernandez is set to undergo medicals in Portugal to seal the deal before the deadline passes.

Real Madrid and Barcelona were reportedly preparing a summer move for the 22-year-old while Benfica has been trying to sign a new contract with the player.

Earlier this month, Fernandez seemed ready to force a move which resulted in Schmidt calling him "disrespectful", but the Benfica boss spoke quite highly of Fernandez’s attitude recently when he was asked whether Fernandez would stay at Benfica.
