Guardiola on Bale: “Fantastic career and a fantastic golf player”

The five-time Champions League winner Gareth Bale announced his retirement from football on Monday after spending his last season at MLS with LAFC. Paying tribute to the Welsh great, Guardiola tips him to become a fantastic golf player.

announced his retirement from football at the age of 33 on Monday. Bale spent his last season at

Los Angeles FC

in MLS, having joined them as a free agent, after having spent nearly a decade at Real Madrid.

Bale won 5 Champions League titles, 3 La Liga titles, 3 Club World Cups, a Copa del Rey with Real Madrid as well as a League Cup with Tottenham. Although he never linked up with

Pep Guardiola,

the Spaniard reveals he did approach him about hitting the golf course.

Asked whether he had ever tried to sign Bale, Guardiola responded with a grin:

"Too expensive.

"What a player. Fantastic career, won a lot of things, and I think he represented Wales and won more than 100 caps.

"And now he will become a fantastic golf player."

About playing golf with the Welsh legend, Guardiola added:

"He was busy, but now maybe he has time, I will invite him again

."
