Liverpool 2-1 Leicester City: Faes scores a brace of own goals to hand Liverpool the victory

Leicester City clashed with Liverpool at Anfield in a match that was full of surprises as the visitors opened the scoring only to be met with two own goals from Leicester’s own Wout Faes.

Despite

making a “comeback”, the team were far from their best as multiple defensive or passing errors created dangerous chances for Leicester during the first half.

In fact, it was on one such occasion that Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall managed to put Leicester City ahead as Liverpool players were caught napping in the fourth minute. Daka, who assisted Dewsberry-Hall on his goal, was injured and eventually subbed with Jamie Vardy.

looked a threat at times in the first half but their fortunes soon turned as a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold found Leicester defender Wout Faes instead of Nunez. However, a poor clearance from Faes put the ball into the back of Leicester’s goal.

Faes’ woes weren’t finished as Darwin Nunez managed to hit the post when he went one-on-one with Ward but the rebound then found Faes once again who for the second time scored an own goal, putting Liverpool ahead.

Liverpool then became more dominant in the second half as players like Naby Keita came on. The Reds managed to create chances, with Nunez and Salah coming close to scoring but eventually the match ended 2-1.

This would be Liverpool’s fourth consecutive win which would put them in the sixth place with 28 points from 16 matches. The Reds are trailing Manchester United and Tottenham closely as they have 29 and 30 points respectively.
