Antonio Conte claims he had ‘zero doubt’ about Harry Kane recovering from World Cup heartbreak

Antonio Conte reiterated that he never doubted Spurs talisman would recover from the World Cup penalty miss.

As conte kept talking about it before Monday’s match, the Spurs boss says he had “zero doubt” over Harry Kane’s mental state after the World Cup heartbreak.

This refers to the fact that Harry Kane missed a late penalty against France in the quarter-finals for the World Cup to make it level and England eventually got knocked out of the tournament because of that miss.

But as

Conte said before

, he trusted Kane to recover from the incident and the Spurs captain proved him right as he scored a goal against Brentford, helping Spurs rescue a point away from home.

"About Harry, I have zero doubt about his mentality,"

Conte told BBC Sport.

"He's facing a strange situation. He had a really good World Cup and also the team played to the quarter-final, then he missed a decisive penalty.

"If you are strong mentally, you move on, and Harry did this. I think the fans were scared because he is playing for Tottenham, not for what happened with England."

Kane

scored his 13th goal of the season today, making him the player with the most goals on Boxing Day (10). He has also scored against all 32 Premier League opponents he has ever faced.

Spurs’ second goalscorer on the day,

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

, echoed Conte’s sentiments about Kane, as he said:

"To underestimate his strength is a big mistake.

"He is a machine. He has the quality to be number one in the world. The biggest mistake you can do in football is to doubt Harry Kane."
