Xavi: "Pedri and Gavi are better than me and Iniesta at the same age"
Sitting at top of the La Liga table thanks to the contributions of their teenage midfielders, Xavi believes the duo outmatch the legendary pair of him and Iniesta when they had the same age.
Ahead of La Liga return,
Barcelona's
boss discussed the rare talent they have in midfield with prodigies such as Gavi and Pedri.
Comparing the duo to the legendary midfield pair of himself and Iniesta, Xavi told
Mundo Deportivo:
“Me at 20 years old and Andres at 20 years old, we were not at the level that Pedri or Gavi are. Eric Garcia, at twenty; Ansu… How Gavi competes, the passion he puts in… We were not at his level.
"Gavi has played practically everything. Ansu is a talent... Perhaps we are asking them too much..."
Facing Espanyol next Saturday while sitting on top of the table in his second season,
Xavi
added:
"I always say that coaching Barca is a roller coaster of emotions. You have to be emotionally very balanced, believe in our essence, our personality. We have an identity and people see it."
