Benzema posts cryptic message ahead of World Cup final

Real Madrid and France star Karim Benzema has hinted that he will not attend the 2022 World Cup final on Sunday.

in the World Cup final on Sunday. France became the first team to reach successive finals since Brazil in 2002 and could become the first team in 60 years and only the third team ever to retain the World Cup.

Benzema was in France’s squad for the World Cup but missed the tournament after picking up an injury days before the opening group match. Didier Deschamps decided to not replace him in the squad.

has returned to full training with Real Madrid in recent days and rumors suggest that he may return to France's squad for the final.

In his press conference after the game against Morocco, France manager Didier Deschamps was asked about a possible Benzema return.

He said:

"I don't want to answer you. It's a stupid question.”

Reports in France claim that French president Emmanuel Macron wants to invite all the squad’s injured players including Paul Pogba and Karim Benzema to Qatar to watch the final but Benzema reportedly has declined the request.

The 34-year-old has now posted a cryptic message on Instagram, simply translated as

"I'm not interested"

, accompanied by an explosion emoji.

Benzema who also missed the 2018 World Cup has scored 37 goals in 97 matches for France. He won the Champions League and La Liga with Real Madrid last season and won the 2021 Ballon D’or award.
