Rubiales denies Twitch streams as the reason for Enrique’s dismissal

Luis Enrique streamed throughout Spain’s World Cup tournament which drew many criticisms but RFEF president says it’s not the reason for his exit.

Following Spain’s defeat at the hands of Morocco and their subsequent exit from the World Cup, manager Luis Enrique was let go. Many suggested that his departure was in parts due to his supposed loss of focus on activities like streaming but (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales insists it is not the case at all.

Enrique, who has since been replaced by Luis de la Fuente, made headlines before the World Cup when he announced that he will be streaming on Twitch during the tournament. As part of his extracurricular activities, Enrique also announced the Spain squad on a bike ride.

Following Spain’s exit, all of these activities have been pointed to and criticized in the Spanish press but Rubiales refuses to credit any rumors suggesting that these activities had anything to do with RFEF’s decision on Enrique.

"I've read a lot of stories, that [it] was his Twitch, that it was his bicycle [rides], things like that. But there was nothing like that."

Rubiales said.

"The three of us, the outgoing sporting director [Jose Molina], the new sporting director [Albert Luque] and I, we agreed we should start a new project. There's nothing else.

"The relationship with Luis Enrique is magnificent. We're very grateful to him. There were different conversations. We always said we'd talk after the World Cup.

"He didn't tell me that he wanted to carry on. The conversation went along other lines, that a project was ending and another was beginning."

Luis Enrique hasn’t talked about his future as of yet but

Spain

has officially unveiled De la Fuente as their manager on Monday with his first test coming in March against Norway.
