Pepe calls Ronaldo ‘Portuguese flag’ and says ‘he’s fine’

Cristiano Ronaldo broke down to tears following Portugal’s surprising defeat at the hands of Morocco

Morocco did the unthinkable as they knocked out star-studded Portugal to become the first-ever African side to reach a World Cup final, ending Cristiano Ronaldo’s dream of winning the World Cup.

The 5-time Ballon d’Or winner was visibly upset after the defeat as it seemed that it was probably the last chance he was getting to play in a World Cup as the 37-year-old heads into the twilight of his career. However, former teammate

Pepe

claims that Ronaldo is “fine” despite his emotional outburst after the match.

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid legend took to social media, admitting that his

"most ambitious dream"

of winning a World Cup with Portugal was over.

As Portugal team landed in Lisbon today, Pepe spoke to reporters about the

Ronaldo

situation and said: "Ronaldo is fine. He's our Portuguese flag. He reaches all parts of the world.

"He gave us his contribution when he was called. We have to thank him and all his team-mates who did their best to be available for the coach."

He was then asked about the future of Santos as Portugal manager, to which he replied: "I'm a player, I don't have to talk about it. I'm not going to go down that path.

"Unfortunately, we didn't achieve the goal we wanted. We tried to give everything to honor our country.

"It's football. There are these things. We have to learn from what happened so that the future is better for us."
