Griezmann overjoyed by reaching Zidane’s assist record for France
Recently Olivier Giroud reached Thierry Henry’s all-time best goal-scoring record for France and now Griezmann has done the same with Zidane’s assist record for his country's national team.
Antoine Griezmann was proud of reaching Zidane’s all-time best assist record for France by providing his 26th assist in Les Bleus’ 2-1 win over
Denmark.
While Mbappe opened the scoring against Denmark, Christensen levelled the plane in the 68th minute of the match. However, eventualluy when Griezmann’s brilliant shot found Mbappe in the 86th minute, France were able to win the match.
The assist puts Griezmann level with French legend Zinedine Zidane. The Atletico Madrid attacker was pleased with the record but proceeded to give credit to Deschamps and his France teammates.
"I am very proud of that,"
Griezmann told TF1.
"But I insist [it is] the work of the team, [rather than] my work offensively or defensively.
"There are the stats, [if] we only look at that. But everyone made an exceptional effort tonight. It was very important to win and qualify."
With this victory
Francebecame the first team to reach the last-16 stage in the 2022 World Cup which was a hard-fought win according to Griezmann.
"We knew it was going to be a complicated match,"
he added.
"We lost twice in the Nations League. We did a lot of work together. Those who returned worked well too. It's a very good victory."
