Marcelo Bielsa in talks to become new Bournemouth manager

Premier League side Bournemouth is exploring the possibility of appointing Marcelo Bielsa as their new manager.

According to the English press,

Bournemouth

is hoping to appoint Marcelo Bielsa as their new manager after holding positive talks with him in recent days. Bielsa has been out of work since leaving

Leeds United

last February.

Bielsa reportedly is open to returning to English football and becoming Bournemouth’s manager. Bill Foley, who owns National Hockey League side Vegas Golden Knights, has not officially become Bournemouth’s new owner but has been searching for a new manager in recent weeks.

American owner who is based in Las Vegas has bought Bournemouth for £120m and will officially become their new owner in the coming days.

Bournemouth sacked Scott Parker in August after a 9-0 defeat against Liverpool. Gary O’Neil has been interim manager since then. At first, they went six games unbeaten under O'Neil but have lost their last four games. Bournemouth is in 17th place with 13 points after 14 games. They are one point above the relegation zone.

The 67-year-old Bielsa was sacked by Leeds United last February, after three-and-a-half years at the club. Bielsa helped Leeds to return to the Premier League in 2020 after a 16-year absence. In 2020-2021 season, they finished in ninth place in the Premier League but last season they slipped toward relegation places.

Bielsa was linked with his former team Athletic Bilbao a few weeks ago but in the end, they decided to appoint Ernesto Valverde.
