Arteta hopes Edu “stays here for a long time”

The Gunners’ manager has deemed his partner in footballing matters, Edu, “super important” and hopes that the club keeps him at any cost.

A former Invincible who played for the

Gunners

between 2001 and 2005, Edu returned to the North London club in 2019 as their first ever technical director. His appointment was soon followed by Mikel Arteta and the two, despite serious doubts from fans and pundits, are now spearheading Arsenal in what is definitely a right direction for the club, both on and off the field.

A big part of Arsenal’s

current good fortunes

have been the smart decisions that Edu made in the transfer market, strengthening the team in the areas that it was needed and supporting Arteta’s decisions, all of which has garnered a lot of attention for the Brazilian. This has resulted in a few European giants offering Edu lucrative offers to pry him away from the Gunners but it seems that the club is offering Edu a new and improved contract.

Speaking on the matter

Arteta

expressed his desire to continue with Edu at Arsenal, stating that:

"I just hope that he stays here for a long time because it would be a really positive thing for the club," said the Spaniard.

"I work with him really well, I think he’s a super important figure at the club that represents all the values, all the ideas and everything that we want to do in the right way. Hopefully, that will be the case.

"There’s a lot happening at a football club and he has a huge role. He has a really good way of communicating with people and managing a lot of things that happen daily. For me and the team, he’s really important.

"I think you have to build that relationship. First of all, you have to be very well respected, the roles have to be very clear and you have to share the same ideas, at the same time you have to be challenged by each other because sometimes as coaches, we have other ideas or we want something right now that is not the best thing for the club."
